TESTING THE MILKING STAND FOR HOOF TRIMMING

in homesteading •  7 years ago

This was a good idea for two reasons!

First off, we like to get the most out of our projects. If this "milking stand" can also work for trimming hooves and shearing sheep, then it'll come in three times as handy. Additionally, Daisy was never really that people friendly, so we hadn't checked her hooves yet. It had been on the to do list, and since she was warming up to us with the milking process anyway, we thought it was about time to give her a pedicure.

THE TEST DRIVE!

After some suggestions from other steemians were received, I decided that I would test out a few other methods for trimming hooves besides the razor blade that I used last time. While I will also be testing out some tools specifically designed for the task, I wanted to try these scissors that I found. I got a good deal on them and I figured that they could do the job.

With Monster Truck the Pepper offering some feed to snack on, I was able to get to work. Giving Daisy a tasty treat while we work with her encourages her to have a good attitude and it also gives her something to do and to distract her a bit.

Personally, I think that these scissors did a great job, Daisy took it well, and the stand worked very good too! It'll be a while before she needs another trim, but she sure needed this one. We've got some other interesting goat news to share soon enough, but I'll need to take some photos first. Here are some other photos from this effort, and I think that they speak for themselves. We all enjoy interacting with these animals on a daily basis, and the @little-peppers are learning a lot of responsibility.

Nice animal husbandry skills...

Thank you. We're learning.

Do you just post the I'm Papa Pepper and here's my proof to prove that those are actually your pictures? I get the whole "Don't plagiarize" thing, but is there a story behind this? Did somebody accuse you of plagiarizing or do you just do it for "good form?"

Good job @papa-pepper ..when you can give the best for animal ..I think you are a good man dan wiseman...I like you ..success forever.

@ papa-pepper at it again, always up to something creative. You rock! Love ur energy

Yup, we are always up to something! Thanks!

I have the slightly smaller version of those same scissors from the same brand and I have had them for years and they are awesome, I use them around the house and take them hunting, the tool steel is good for a magnesium striker too.

Very cool! This was the first time that I had seen that kind of scissors, but I had to stop and buy!

I made a little sheath for mine so I could put them in my pocket and backpack.

Wow, you did a good job, sir, thank you for sharing the info. The milking stand is very useful not just for milking but in cutting goat hooves.

Yup! Soon we can try it for shearing sheep too!

Milk stand is very useful Sir, and you are so creative for using it not only for milking :)

I like your friend!

thanks for my good friend .. please help me upvote friend have one friend ya

She really did need the trimming. I think animals somehow know when they're being well cared for and actually appreciate it.

They might know that we are helping. Sure seems so sometimes!

Well groom goat now and got food reward for being cooperative....nice all photos

Yup, it worked out well!

I need to build one one these bad now the babys are here.

Good point! Give me a call later if you can.

So what are the uses of trimming goat hooves??

It keeps them healthy and prevents infection.

another awesome activity on homesteading @papa-pepper as always , Daisy is so lucky to have you, taking care of her because i can't remember goat owners back in my hometown giving pedicure to their goats , hehe, so sweet of you to animals , really a good man 👍👏❤️❤️❤️

Thank you for that. If the goats walk on enough rocks, their hooves stay trimmed. Here they are in a field though, so I have to trim them.

The name of the animal got me, so cool a name, Daisy that shows the creative mind of @papa-pepper. Rock on homesteading

I just saw a video today about trimming horse hooves. Now you're talking about trimming goat hooves. Maybe it's the world telling me to cut my toenails. Heh.
Have you cut goat nails before? Is it difficult to keep from cutting the hoof?

I've done this about three times now. It's pretty easy if you understand the basics and what to watch out for.

Pinkie-Pepper just gets better and better with her photography! Moster Truck did a fantastic job feeding Daisy and keeping her occupied. Okay! Okay! You did a fine job too, @papa-pepper!

l!

hey @papa-pepper, new achievement for you guys, we'll be waiting for the @little-peppers next adventure! 👶👍❤️❤️❤️

The scissors is the best to use because it would trim straight and it won't cause any injury to you nor the baby unlike blade and some other tools

I'm pretty good with a blade, but these worked very well with less risk. Thanks @sirsticks!

thanks for shearing.very nice post sir.

I always fantasize of homesteading and owning a goat farm!! I was talking with my wife the other day about it and she always dismisses the idea as silly. I showed her this and she just rolls her eyes! One day I will hit the Lotto with a nice safety net below us and pull that trigger and make the move.

You are a great inspiration to me! Thanks for sharing.

it's a very good job @papa-pepper.
every post you can always be made an example in everyday life.
because you always make a post that evokes us in something useful.

Thank you @jasonmunapasee!

your welcome, i am very interested postings like this.
always support...

Your work is really inspiring @papa-pepper. Reading what you do at home, together with your family, is beautiful. Today I enjoyed every photo and the story behind them, and I'm taking some ideas from their example to share with a missionary group that I'm working with here in Venezuela, whose goal is to become a self-sustaining mission and not depend on help financial of churches or brothers who because of the socio-economic situation of my country is insecure; and I think the work you do on your farm can serve as an example to follow. God bless you.
P.D. Do you give me permission to translate your publication into Spanish to share it with my Spanish-speaking friends?

You may translate and use all the images from my posts that you want. Just link my original post in your translation and let me know when you post it, so I can support it!

ok. Thank you very much.

Hello again. As I said in my previous comment, I have translated your post, this is the link so you can see it https://steemit.com/translation/@arquiatra/prueba-de-la-plataforma-de-ordeno-para-el-corte-de-pezunas-traduccion-al-espanol-del-post-original-de-papa-pepper. Thank you once again for this opportunity. God bless you.

Very good @papa-pepper

That is a lot safer for you rather than a razor blade,
It is surprising how fast the hooves will grow on pasture rather than the stony cliffs that they were designed for, it is a never-ending job [just like girls fingernails]

Yup, we plan on building some rock structures for them to play on to help out!

I don't know about goats, but sheep hooves, at the stage you had, sure are real smelly, to the point it is worth doing them more often to avoid the smell.

I'm completely inexperienced with goats, but...is that a normal amount of hoof trimming? Is it usual to have to cut that much off for them or was Daisy just really due for a trim?

Wow!

Wow! I like what you are doing... Really I admire you... You are very open! All the good vibes that I need is in you! LOL

May God bless your family @papa-pepper... I am always here to see and read your new blog...

Oh my... Daisy got a pedicure. Wonderful proof of work.

Is it weird that I found clipping goat hooves oddly satisfying? Minus the smell of smashed goat poo, of course. 😁

A very good homesteader

Wow this is so cool
I really learn from this
It's good to learn this incase I end up being a farmer
I love this upvoted and resteemed

In case you end up being a farmer? I never thought that I would! You just might!

Lol 😂 I don't want I hate farming

Wow! Nice job. She sure took it well and the distraction helped. I always love what you do with them.

Good program and good luck 👍

I never knew that goats need to do a pedicure .... We do not do this in the country. Then your animals should be happy, they are well taken care of).

Cool! Now the animal will not have health problems. This approach to animals is very correct! Follow up)))

Thanks, we like to do preventative care ahead of time!

У меня бабушка козу и корову имела, а ещё у нее были свиньи))). А я так и не умею за животными ухаживать.

You have really great homesteading skills. Have learned a lot from following your channel on Youtube. Looking forward to learning a lot more from you here on Steemit. Hoping to have a goat or two one day. I was a little unsure about this hoof trimming thing, but reading your post has eased my mind a bit.

It's easy once you understand the process. Thanks @sunny52!

posting a very good friend, oh yes, for what nail goat in pieces, what because the fingernails are rotten yes.

Goat @ papa-pepper is nice and interesting ..
My sister also likes to play with goats

IMG_20171227_193522.jpg

@papa-pepper this is actually very nice and awesome. Keep making fun from animals. As a veterinary doctor on steemit i will advice you to do the trimming with caution because any wound on it could cause bacteria toxins like clostridium or other endotoxemia which could lead to their dealth. We are animal lovers, we love animals. I love animals! All specie goat(caprine), dogs(canine) and all other animals. Keep the flag flying sir...

Thanks. I will always be very careful!

@papa-pepper thanks for the response. You can as well check out my next post on some important tips for farmers in a farm. This is done so as to encourage farmer n to minimize morbidity rate in the farm. Am my humble self vet Dr afeezee🐃🐂🐎🐴🐕🐩
