THE RANDOMNESS OF HOMESTEADING – MAKESHIFT ROOFINGsteemCreated with Sketch.

Sometimes my life is pretty spontaneous anyway, but with homesteading, you never know what you will encounter some days.

There are times when I do have plans, but I’ve lived long enough to keep them flexible. I am not sure what my plans were supposed to be on Friday afternoon, but out of nowhere one of our STEEM-powered pigs was giving birth.

The fencing that I had up was not adequate for the situation, so I had to drop whatever it was that I was up to and switch gears. Then, on Sunday morning, I woke up and it was raining! The pigs were isolated in one section of the pen that did not have a roof. Soon, I was out in the rain trying to keep our little piggies dry. I thought that I would make a vlog about it and show off our cute piglets.

Now this is the third spontaneous bit of work that I had to do because of these little piglets.

  • 1 - Midwife
  • 2 - Making "piglet-proof" fencing
  • 3 - Makeshift Roofing

THE RANDOMNESS OF HOMESTEADING - MAKESHIFT ROOFING

DREAMS COMING TRUE!

As many of you already know, my dreams are coming true right now. I am really loving the progression that we are making and I am very optimistic about the future.

My mind is still being blown at the role that steemit is playing in it. Just like when we bought our hogs with earnings from steemit, a lot of progress on the land is being made possible because of steemit! I hope that one day your dreams come true too! Steem on!

As always, I'm @papa-pepper and here's the proof:

Build a house of pigs with rewarded money : )

I love the fact steem has helped you accomplish so much. I hope to make progress here like you have. You are living my dream. Soon I plan to move and buy some land. I hope to be as successful as you have been. Thanks for the inspiration.

I am glad that you have a similar goal in life here. Also, hopefully you can learn from my mistakes and help save yourself some time!

cute

@papa you got a plan to feed that many hogs? LoL, I grew up on farms and a lot of babies is always nice at first, but then comes when they mature and the more mouths to feed. If you got a lot of land for them to forage on, that's pretty good, or maybe a bunch of crops to feed them. Maybe buy some extra feed from Steemit profits. I just see that many pigs and am thinking how much they will be eating.

You never know what life will bring you , that is so cute how they are all isolated to one area and you actually built them a shed type thing to protect them from the rain. You put in a lot of work so they can not escape :D love it @papa-pepper

Gotta keep them safe, although there are not too many hazards.

Good work indeed , always keeping yourself busy with different tasks . Man of adventures for sure

They are so cute at that age. Good thing you were available to build them a rain shelter so they didn't drown. I bet you keep your hands full on your homestead. Good thing you are flexible. Thanks for sharing these new additions.

Yeah, I keep it flexible. You're welcome!

This is the story of my life on the farm. Every day I am being pulled away from my current task by some new "emergency" that needs fixing NOW. I am coming to understand that this is just the way farm life is and have stopped getting upset or frustrated. Things will get done, eventually, and the most important get priority.

Good idea not getting frustrated, I'm glad I never started down that path.

It's hard being partly type A and needing to be in control of situations and then being a farmer. The experiences of the farm teach quickly though, else a person won't be farming long. It's great seeing yours coming together as well as it is.

It has been a long journey already, but we are starting the next chapter.

Hahaha that's amazing (and cute! Piglets all over the place lol)

Definitely glad to see other people using their Steem earnings in the real world; motivates and encourages me a lot.

Yeah, steemit can make a big difference and has HUGE potential!

Great post looks like you had a couple of busy days getting the pen ready for those cute little piglets, thanks for sharing.

Day one was getting their pain ready, but it's been busy ever since.

Black pig? Is it really a single parent or some parent Brother ?

The dad is in the next pen over. They are both predominantly a variety called "Large Black."

que lindo puerquito yo quisiera tener uno igual

LOL, Thanks!

They are very cute. Thanks @papa-pepper

Yes they are!

From the top view those little cute piggies looks like baby elephants.

Sure, I could see that. Interesting.

sweet I'm not the only one thank you @stefen :D

yep things have a way of changing priorities and it's not all bad :) I think if your still have all your pig's three meals later your doing great ;) in the first picture the very center one with it's head turned the way it is to me kinda looks like a tiny elephant :D thanks for sharing

Baby elephants! I've been hearing that a lot lately.

I enjoyed the post and video. The little piglets seem to be doing great, and I noticed mamma pig didn't try to taste/bite the had that feeds her.

No, we are working especially hard with her right now to encourage her to be docile. She doesn't even check out little squeals when we are around picking them up now.

Fantastic!
I really love animals so much especially the babies of them :)
Continue, please..

Always have something to do on a homestead, never a dull day eh.

Never! A lot to get done every day is right!

Wow , we ganna litson the piggy's

I have no idea what that means.. care to elaborate?

I think it is amazing what you are doing on steemit and in your life. Your little peppers are learning a lot from you. Not only by your teaching them but of the example you are displaying to them. They might realize it now but they will n the future. How you live your life they are learning by the examples you are setting for them.

Thank you for your continuous encouragement @coffeetime!

They are adorable! I love piglets and you're right about the mom rolling over or stepping on them, we had one piglet get a huge chunk of her shoulder cut open by her mom when we had our first litter...we learned pretty quickly after that.

So cool that steemit helped you get your pigs. :D Congratulations on the new litter. :D Have an awesome day! :D

What did you do when the shoulder got hurt?

Took it to the vet to get cleaned up and stitched. I wish we'd thought to do the work ourselves.

We could have done it ourselves if we'd been thinking...

So adorible

Oh yeah!

I am glad that your dreams are coming true.

Me too. Also, your description of yourself is hilarious!

Just a regular man stumbling through life with many observations and thoughts which I am compelled to share with others. Sorry about that.

Hi papa! Since you are into homsteading i want to share with you the very first part of my great Earthship Story.. I hope you follow this story of one man's mission to self build.. its quit a story! Being self sufficient is the way out of materialism!

Very cool stuff. Thank you for actually engaging me prior to dropping your link.

Thanks papa-pepper, glad u approve of my ethical 'spam' lol. I read your posts so i thought you would be interested! Best!

I love that your dreams are becoming the reality! I am looking forward to see where all your dreams take us! Shared to show the reality of steemit!

It is a great example of the reality of the power of steem/steemit!

Oh my those pigs are crazy cute! And it's so heartening to hear how much steemit is helping your homesteading life.

It is such a blessing to see all that steemit has provided. Also, they are super cute!

We are on the 2nd generation of STEEM-Powered pigs and the 3rd Generation of STEEM-Powered rabbits, as featured in the latest @little-peppers post.

So many piglets I thought they were wild boars similar to what we have in the Philippine jungles. Cheers.

I am also a farmer and a rancher.

I like this

wow here comes my beautiful piglets agin from the one and only @papa-pepper aka midwife .They look great , why not we name them steemit piggies (pls cite me if you take up the names haha) with number 1 to the last...I guess that @papa-pepper tribe will be glad.

I truly admire your skills with animals , those piggy's are looking happy and well take care of

Hey, @papa-pepper! Another great video. Sometimes on the homestead, you just have to improvise and hope for the best. Love the way you have made seem work for you and your dreams.

They all look like they are doing well.

Yes they are, and I'll post about a situation that we had later.

What beautiful things do you have like a tourist farm or Zoo something like that. i always see that you post about animals i love animals i have learn some things about your post such as the (Black Snaket).

Glad to hear it! We really enjoy our animals too.

Aaaah pigs...all I have to say is don't get too comfortable. Haha :P They are quite the escape artists, and definitely keep you on your toes, but their personalities...and bacon, make up for their shenanigans. Mostly. Keep up the posts! We'll be watching life in Arkansas from Wisconsin! @papapepper
