SILIŅI. How hard is it to collect fire food in the forest?

in homesteading •  7 years ago  (edited)

Here in the country side most of all people use wood heat there homes. And we are no exception. Plus we are lucky enough to have our own forest where we can colect fire wood, so we don't neet do pay other people for it. In this short post I'l give you a small insight what it takes to get the wood from forest to our home.

I'm just showing you our way of getting by. It's not the best way, it's not the easiest - it's our way of doing things whith the equipment that we have in the certain circumstances.

I could say that all process could be divided in 3 steps:

1. Cuting trees in peaces.

Our forest is located in low / wet place and recently a group of beavers desiced that it's not a bad place for living. So they are slowely taking down threse ane by one. And they are forking quite fast, becouse in the last few years we are colecting only those trees that they took down - we don't cut any trees for our self, we are just colecting those that already are on the ground. I dont have any photos / video from this part, but if someone is interested - I could come up with something.

2. Getting the wood out of the forest.

I could say that this is the hardest part. Usualy there is no road where the trees are so it takes some time before we clear the path for tactor to get in. Sometimes my uncle comes to help us. He has a lot of big tractors. It's easyer to colect wood with a bigger one, but it's more dificult as wel. In the video you can see that we use a realy small one. We can put just a small amount of wood on it, but it's not as heavy as big ones, so it doesn't sink / get stuck in the wet places. Main goal is to get wood out of the forest and stack it by the road where other vehicle could pick it up. And the small tractor is good enoupgh for the job.

3. Getting the wood home.

This is last and most easyest / fastest part. We take some small amount home with the tractor.

But most of the job gets done simple with a car and trailer.

Basically that's it. If you have any questions or advise, you know where the coment section is, right?

Hope you will have a great day ;)
