Howdy friends! There's a few things in life you can NEVER have too much of...like STORAGE...or horsepower...or pecan pie!

For those of us that have portable sheds like those from Harbor Freight or Shelterlogic, here's a few quick improvements that you can do in about 15 minutes to secure that big "Kite" from your next storm. Here in my neck of the woods, we get some BIG winds from time to time...50...60 mph not uncommon...

I got mine at Harbor Freight for about $169 with coupon...10' X 16'. Not bad for extra overflow storage, cheap and quick to assemble as well. As my son and I assembled, we noticed how lightweight it is, although pretty sturdy. Here are a couple of things we did to keep our portable shed from taking off in a wind quicker than a jackrabbit being chased by a hounddog!!!

#1 Use ratchet straps inside - running side to side to each matching upright pole. In essence you're locking the structure together, and this will prevent the wall sections from flexing and bowing out. Virtual joists using ratchet straps!

We didn't cut the straps, as we wanted to preserve them for future use, so we kept the hooks in place

*#2 Use screw-in place ground anchors and the ends of ratchet straps to loop around the bottom sections of the frame structure. Pictures say it ALL! We had some leftover lengths of straps we used to loop around the frame, then cinch up in the ratchet. We placed some concrete blocks against the frame as added reinforcement.20180212_162951.jpg

#3 Drive in scrap rebar at the corners, then cinch up bailin' wire around the rebar and frame to keep the corners from twisting and hold them securely to the ground.

Hope this helps some of y'all! I can tell you, with the BIG winds we've had this winter here at the homestead, this little portable shed hasn't moved an INCH!!!

We owned one of those sheds once... Want to have some fun? Try reassembling it during the start of a heavy shower as you are half way through butchering a mess of chickens!!! 8-P

That sounds like more fun than I could stand @healthy-home !!! We had a healthy 15-20 mph wind blowing when my son and I assembled it, and that was PLENTY FUN!!! LOL

Nicely done! I like the featured images for your articles too ... good job creating a brand!

Thank you very much @helenoftroy !!! I sincerely appreciate your comment...

We have the same one. Winds whip through our property at times up around 50mph. The interior ratchet straps are a good idea we'll use. I ended up using plain old boulders to weight down the corner posts. seems to be working. Will check out your other posts.

Thanks for your comments @mistermercury !!! I've noticed the straps make the entire structure more rigid, and cut down a lot of the wind flexing. That plus anchoring it to the ground in some manner, and you've got a winner!

Great Idea @texasoffgrid!! 👍

Thank you much @hopfarmnc !!! I really appreciate the comment!

Since you are keeping your tight I wonder if it will last longer than 2 years, that is the normal life I have heard from others. Nice post!
