Brew Day

This morning I posted a tutorial about brewing kombucha. It finally inspired me enough to actually start brewing my own again. We used to brew it all the time but life got busier and it wasn't a priority anymore. We began buying bottles of booch, and considering that you pay almost $10 for three at superstore (on sale) and they now carry one of our favourite flavours, grape GT, the expensive temptation is often too much.

But no more! So today I made sure the Berkey was plenty full and drained off a huge pot of clean filtered water.

I grabbed my black tea, which I can only reach with a chair or using my handy silicone tongs! LoL

I threw a cup of organic sugar in there and got the water boiled, then tossed the tea bags in at the end and took it off the burner. It's still sitting and cooling on the stove. It takes quite a while to cool that much tea!

Tonight I'll pour it into my large jar with a spigot and plop a SCOBY on top :)

Haven't decided what flavours I'll make it into yet though. I had meant to pick a bunch of Sea Buckthorn berries last weekend but never got around to it, I bet that would make a delicious brew!

I'll probably just go with grape juice, I still have some kicking around in the cupboard, plus it's my favourite :)

Do you brew?

yes, I do!! and have a bunch of scobies sitting around - waiting for me to get my act together. I usually brew a smaller amount, but very strong. Then mix cold water in to cool it down faster.....

That's interesting! I usually just do a ginormous strong brew HaHa

We haven't brewed in so long, it was quite overdue! :)

I have to get going - my last turned into vinegar :)

That's happened to us more than once too! LoL

I've had a jug of booch on the go for about 2 years now....and, like you, use my Berkey filter for water. I don't do the secondary fermentation at all, but sometimes add some juice or seltzer right before I drink it. But mostly I drink it plain. It has made a great difference in my digestive health and if I miss a few days, my body lets me know!

I really don't enjoy it without the fizz LoL

It helped me quit drinking soda, so as it's replacement, it's almost like drinking it flat without the 2F LoL

To me it tastes like apple cider or lemon tea...or somewhere in between!

Congratulations, that is a delicious gastronomic challenge. The most pleasant satisfaction for the palate especially if it is prepared by the same taster. Grape looks provocative. Thanks for sharing your post.

Thank you so much for reading!! Grape is quite a delicious flavour! :)

You have inspired me to make some buck again. I was always a fan of grape but I love the new Tumeric flavored kombucha. 🐓🐓

I bet my husband would love that, he adds turmeric to EVERYTHING!! LoL
