Chickens and Tomatoes

The bigger ladies devouring tomatoes

I had some overripe tomatoes I needed to toss and instead of just throwing them in the yard like I usually do, I needed to put them in the chicken pen. Our chickens are in a penned in area for a while until they start roosting and laying where they are supposed to and not all willy nilly up in trees and such. Our older chickens love scraps. They understand what it means when we come outside with a bowl. The younger ones, not so much. They tend to run away when things are tossed to them instead of investigating.

Anyway, I thought I'd grab some pics while they were distracted. Hope you enjoy meeting our flock!

A younger white one finally investigated the tomatoes.

Foghorn making his presence known. He is kind of a jerk. He will be leaving soon.

The chicken outside the pen sticking her head through the wire is Sugar Cube. She managed to escape this morning and hasn't been caught to be put back inside. She is elusive.

I've been calling this one Lady. I think she is a very pretty chicken.

This one has been dubbed Pigeon.

Pigeon again

I'm working on a post about a rooster of ours we have named Lloyd the Lonely Rooster. He lives with the sheep. He tries to join the other chickens but they always run him off. Poor Lloyd.

Hope you enjoyed meeting my chickens! Thanks for looking!

Youhave some absolutely beautiful birds!

I appreciate that, @awesomehomestead! Thanks!

I really look forward to meeting Lloyd! Which state are you in?

I live in Missouri! Southern Missouri, in the Ozarks.

Were in willow springs about 25 miles north of west plains!

No way! I live halfway between Mtn. View and Willow Springs! What a small world!

Dude! Come visit us!!!!

If you have extra zucchinis, cut one in half long ways and throw it in the chicken pen, they really like zucchini.

I did that for them last year when I had an abundance of squash. This year I'm hanging on to every squash I can get! Haha!

Lady is pretty

She is. Thanks, @jakeimnotshure.

Chickens are about as good at enjoying the leftovers as pigs. I can see why you call that one Pigeon!

They get everything we can give them that the dogs don't get to first. I didn't like Pigeon at first but she has grown on me.
