Forced Begging

NO FREEDOM IN THE DESERT

Have you ever counted on how many traffic lights there is someone asking for money for washing the glass or for some "need"?

When we walk through the streets of our city we will find women with babies asking for money to eat, children selling sweets in restaurants instead of playing. Both are one of the most common forms that are within our daily life of modern slavery, it is called forced begging.

we go to one of our favorite beaches in our state, we can see through the window huge fields of different fruits, abundant orange growing in our region. The personnel working with temperatures of up to 47 ° Celsius with working days of up to 12 hrs. The majority migrated from southern states of our country in search of a better quality of life.

They come with the promise of being able to get ahead not only economically, but waiting for an opportunity to excel in their studies, having health insurance, housing and food come in the package. When they arrive they encounter a different reality.

They stay working here because they earn a little more than in their hometown.

And like forgetting about sexual services, but before entering into the subject in question, it is necessary to make clear these differences:

Prostitution: Activity or occupation of the person who voluntarily has sex in exchange for money.

Trafficking in persons / Trafficking in persons: This is the trade in persons for the purpose of forced sexual exploitation, the removal of organs, forced labor, among others.

Based on these two definitions, the relationship between prostitute / servant sex and the client is merely an employment contract, where both parties believe to take advantage of this relationship, and it is voluntary. On the other hand trafficking in persons / trafficking in persons is the capture, trade (purchase-sale), transfer, accommodation, kidnapping, fraud, deception, abuse of power of a vulnerable situation for exploitation purposes and this is totally against the will of the person trafficked.

These three facts sound like a totally different world from the one we know. The reality is that it happens before our eyes every day.

In Mexico there are around 376,800 thousand people in some kind of modern slavery.

Now that you know this, you'll turn your gaze to the other side?
