An international group of anthropologists found in Israel the oldest remains of a modern man (Homo sapiens), found outside Africa.
The report says that scientists have discovered fragments of the jaw with the teeth of an ancient man at excavations in the cave Myslya in the region of Mount Carmel. The age of the remains is estimated at 177-194 thousand years.
Thus, these fragments of the jaw are the oldest remains of Homo sapiens, discovered outside Africa.
Anthropologists believe that modern man appeared in Africa 160-200 thousand years ago, and left the continent about 100 thousand years ago. The remains found in Israel indicate that Homo sapiens came to the Eastern Mediterranean much earlier.
