Why I Love To Wildly Polyculture Garden

in homsteaderscoop •  5 years ago  (edited)

We love to polyculture garden here in our Kindred Acres food forest. The reason is not just because of diversity for the pollinators, and for pest management, but for our own personal gain as well! When we have a big variety of things in the garden, we get to eat a big variety of foods....varying nutrients, flavors, minerals, etc. This is pretty important to me, especially because we like to eat mostly from our homestead.

We have a variety of fruit trees, perennial plants, herbs and medicines. We also plant within this area, our annual vegetables and fruits, wildly mixing them up and spreading them out. In this video, you will see part of our daily harvest. You can see how diverse the harvest is and this was only about half of it.

Take a look at the video of half of our daily harvest. I post this not to brag but to help INSPIRE! Step out of your comfort zone and plant wildly! Get rid of the idea of companion planting, or rows of all the same, or of the typical industrial agricultural mind and step into the wild. Create a diverse wild food forest. You won't regret it!!

P.s. Sorry my camera cut off! I was just about to talk about storage ideas I had so I guess I'll do this on another video!!

With lots of love
