WASSHINGTON DC - United States President Donald Trump will not attend the opening of the US embassy in Jerusalem on May 14, 2018.
The statement was announced by the White House on Monday (7/5/2018), as well as declared Deputy Minister of the Interior John Sullivan who will lead the delegation to Jerusalem.
In fact, when meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel on 27 April, Trump considers the possibility she attended the inauguration of the US embassy in Jerusalem to cut the ribbon.
"I will probably go, I am very proud of him," Trump said at the time.
Reported by The Hill, Trump's daughter and son-in-law, Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner are also scheduled to attend as Trump's senior adviser.
Trump's presence at the opening ceremony of the US embassy in Jerusalem is believed to have sparked protests.
The Times of Israel reported, US embassy officials said there were about 800 people invited in the inauguration.
"These invitations include religious leaders, businessmen, journalists, academics, and representatives of the US government," a US embassy official said.
In addition, a number of Israeli government officials and political leaders were also asked to attend the event.
A week ahead of the opening of the US embassy to Israel, workers have started installing signboards and ornaments around the US consulate building in the Arnona region of Jerusalem.
They posted signs and signs indicating "US Embassy" in Hebrew, Arabic and English around the consulate building.
As is known, the US decided to move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, following Trump's admission of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel on December 6, 2017.
Trump's policy has come under fire from various parties, because the Palestinians want East Jerusalem as their future capital.
