"It Chapter Two" Blew Me Away

While on vacation in the Poconos, I drove to Easton to find a movie theater where I could see "It Chapter Two." If you didn't see the first installment of this version of the movie, there were plenty of flashbacks to help guide you along. However, I still deem it necessary to see the first part from 2017. For 2 hours and 49 minutes, this movie moved along pretty quickly.

Director Andy Muschietti upped the scares, while still staying true to the storytelling of the screenplay and not the book. Although the first kill scene with Pennywise was straight out of the book. It is not a spoiler that the Losers Club reunites after 27 years. Mike (Isaiah Mustafa) is the only member of this group that hasn't moved away from Derry. Jessica Chastain, Bill Hader, Jay Ryan, James McAvoy, James Ransone and Andy Bean portray the other members of the club as grownups. Obviously, they are needed to return to their hometown to finish what they couldn't accomplish as kids. Bill Skarsgard returns as Pennywise, but in an even creepier fashion.

It is very interesting that Muschietti uses not only visual scares, but also the element of surprise that makes one jump. Like most Stephen King books, there are many characters involved in the story and not enough time to actually play with all of their backstories in detail. I was hoping that more was going to be done with Teach Grant as an older Henry Bowers and his escape from the asylum. Regardless, I left the theater feeling tremendously satisfied over the movie. However, my popcorn was burnt.
