Roadside attractions are some of the strangest things you’ll see on any road trip, and sometimes they can be downright disturbing! (1) The Doll House of horror in New Orleans

The Doll House of horror is a roadside attraction that was created by an artist who wanted to create something for people's nightmares. It is located on the outskirts of New Orleans, Louisiana and contains a collection of dolls that have been painted and mutilated to resemble monsters. Though it may be hard to find, The Doll House of horror is worth the trip if you are looking for something creepy and bizarre on your next road trip.

(2) The Winchester Mystery House in San Jose
The Winchester Mystery House is one of the most famous tourist destinations in the United States. The house was created by Sarah Winchester, heiress to the Winchester rifle fortune, who believed that she had been cursed by the spirits of those killed by her family's guns. Construction began in 1884 and never ceased until her death on September 5, 1922. Today it stands as a monument to 19th century eccentricity and is said to be haunted.

(3) The Mutter Museum in Philadelphia

The Mutter Museum is one of Philadelphia's most famous attractions. The museum showcases the world's largest collection of medical oddities and anatomical specimens. It is also home to a preserved two-headed baby, Siamese twins, an electric chair that was used in the first electric execution in the U.S., and many other human deformities that are hard to look at for long periods of time.

Housed in a former mortuary, the Museum of Death is an institution that celebrates the culture and history of death. The museum has three floors with exhibits on murder, suicide, serial killers and medical oddities. The most popular exhibit is the Permanent Collection which includes such bizarre items as Charles Manson’s glasses and John Wayne Gacy Jr.'s clown costume. Visitors to this museum are often disappointed if they have a low tolerance for gore.

The La Brea Tar Pits are a natural trap for prehistoric animals that became extinct 10,000 years ago. The deep pits are filled with tar and the bones of saber-toothed cats, mammoths, and dire wolves. Visitors can take tours to see the tarpits up close and to learn about how they were formed. The LaBrea Tar Pits are on Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles, California.

(6) The Pacific Heights Residence in San Francisco

This house was originally built in 1890 by architect George Applegarth, who designed the building to mimic a Japanese pagoda. After the 1906 earthquake and fire, architect Bernard Maybeck remodeled the facade of the home in an Arts and Crafts style. The building is now on the National Register of Historic Places and is considered one of San Francisco's first modern homes.

(7) The Myrtles Plantation in St. Francisville

The Myrtles Plantation in St. Francisville is one of the most haunted places in the world, if not the most haunted. Its been widely reported to be haunted by over a dozen different spirits, including a man who was burned alive and a slave girl who had her head chopped off with an axe. The plantation house is also rumored to have been used as a stop on the Underground Railroad, and there's even speculation that it's home to a portal to another dimension or world.

While in New Orleans, you might want to stay close to Bourbon Street for its nightlife. And if you're staying at the Bourbon Orleans Hotel, then you'll be close to the most haunted place on Bourbon Street! The historic hotel is said to be haunted by a number of ghosts that date back from 1817 when it was first built. One ghost known as The Lady in Red has been spotted roaming the halls and has been seen making her way through mirrors.

The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado is the most haunted hotel in America. Built by Freelan Oscar Stanley, an eccentric industrialist and inventor, the building's diverse architectural styles are representative of the various periods of its construction.

Whaley House is a historic home in Old Town San Diego that was built in 1857. It is now the most haunted house in America, and it has been featured on many TV shows, including Ghost Adventures. The house was declared a California Point of Historical Interest in 1968 and is considered to be one of the best preserved examples of American Victorian era architecture.
