The Shadows In You

In the Dead of night, when all things go silent, Darkness returns.
Unable to see with your eyes, you are forced to rely on touch.
While you roam through the Darkness, that feeling of being watched; something is hiding in the shadows. Something you cannot see. You don’t want to look, you can’t look.
Fear takes hold of you, the fear controls you.

But what lurks in the Darkness?
Monsters? Demons? Ghost? Angels?
Are those things even real to begin with? Of course not, they are just mere myths and legends.
Or are they? These things can be real in one place, a place hidden from us, a place we have barely visited. The human brain. For in the depths of your mind lies your greatest fears, hopes, dreams, regrets and even your forgotten nightmares. Nightmares that torment you, make you fear the darkness, the shadows, and those things that lurk within it.

But think for a moment, who or what creates these monsters? Why ask? You know the answer. Its you of course. Instead ask yourself this. Why would you create these things? Things that torment you, scare you, make every move you make in the darkness feel like the last steps before death. If it wasn't you who created them, then who did? What part of your mind is working against you? Trying to scare you, trying to betray you. Or are you truly the one in control?

This thing that hides within you is a foe that you cannot see, you cannot touch, you cannot beat.
Its weapons are your own fears, your own memories, your own regrets. If this thing is apart of you, why does it want to harm you? Why would it harm itself? The questions are many and the answers are few. In the end it comes down to a simple question, who is in charge? Is it the Ghost? Formed by your regrets. Or the Monsters? Formed by your fears. Or maybe the Demons? Formed by your failures. They all have a part to play.
But then there is the Angels, they are your dreams, hopes and your chance for happiness.

The Angels are many in number, but they are also weak. They are unable to fight off the Monsters that you create, the ones that lurk deep in your mind causing the fear which holds you back. They also fight the Demons who make you second guess yourself. Can you really succeed? You have failed before, remember?. What will make this time better? There is also the Ghost, they show no mercy. Instead They dwell on what could have been, what should have been. But did not happen.

So it was your fear of failure that made you second guess yourself. The act of doing so made you regret it but you cannot change it. And with that you create another batch of Monsters, Demons and Ghosts. You who forever surrounds the Angels that only wish to help you. You betray them to those creatures. Instead of helping them you leave them to be consumed by the darkness. Forever lost, forever fighting, forever in pain.

When you can't see with your eyes your mind takes over. Your eyes let you see the world, but blinds you from the truth. In the dead of night you have no choice, you can’t use your eyes, your mind now has control. Switch on a light and chase the Demons, Monsters and Ghosts away. But they shall return, they always return. Though your eyes are open, you are now blind to the truth, you can’t see them anymore, but they are still there. For there is one place that is always covered in darkness, a place you try to forget, a place that you can’t go to and visit.

It is of course, your mind. For in the darkness evil lurks. For in the shadows evil lurks. For in the shadows...
