What is Horticulture and what it means to me.

Horticulture is the study of plants. How to grow, propagate, detect diseases and insects in plants. I also work in landscape design of properties and planters. Horticulture brings beauty, food and valuable resources to the world.

Fall planter design

• Plants good for cool weather: Mums, kale, pansies, grasses, peppers, coral bells, peppers and vinca.
• Rules for design: Use different textures of plants, different foliage color, and different heights ( tall, medium, short and trailing).
• Adding extras for a bigger effect: Using pumpkins, straw bales, and baskets around the base. Using lotus pods, cattails or twigs in the pots adds height and interest.

Fall in ground display

• You can use a variety of cold tolerant plants as see above. There are many others available at garden centers.
• Decorations include straw bales, corn stalks, pumpkins gourds.
• Tip: water the mums only at the roots, avoid the tops.
