“Should I be posting videos every day? Does it matter if I engage with other users anymore? How many hashtags should I use? Where do I even begin?!”
Alright. Calm down. I promise it’s going to be okay! I’m here for you. Next, keep reading! I’m telling you a variety of ways you can get new followers on Instagram in 2022.
Instagram Reels
The best way to gain followers on Instagram right now is to add Reels to your Instagram strategy. Like TikTok, Instagram has a Reels feed in which you can look at Reels from all kinds of Instagram accounts. It’s one of the best ways to find new accounts to follow yourself, as well as to reach new potential followers you wouldn’t otherwise reach.
How to Go Viral with Instagram Reels
Use trending sounds. Viral sounds on Instagram will help push out your content! From Reels, click the music icon in the lower left corner. You’ll see how often the song has been used and can also save the song for later. Trending sounds and songs will give you more engagement as Instagram prioritizes these videos!
Add captions. Add captions to your Reels so people who like to watch social media videos without sand (or who are hearing impaired) can still glean the purpose of the video content you post.
Use hashtags and specific keywords that describe the video! No matter the type of content you’re creating for Instagram, using relevant and specific hashtags will put your content in front of more people. Instagram also scans posts for keywords now, so using appropriate keywords in your captions will ensure the right people see your content.
Optimize Your Instagram Account

Hashtags are still one of the best tools you have at your disposal on Instagram. You should be using hashtags for every. single. post. The more hashtags you use, the more people you’ll reach. Make sure the hashtags make sense and relate to your content!
Collaborate with Others
Use the new Collab tool on Instagram to cross-promote your Instagram account with another! One of the newest features Instagram has is Collab, where you (or another user!) can create a collaborated post that, once approved, will be shared on BOTH Instagram accounts. With this feature, your content will be shown to both your followers and your collaborator’s followers. Winning!
Post Consistently
I know. Duh, Katie. But this is a piece of advice people don’t put into practice nearly enough. If you want to grow your account, you need to post consistently. Posting on a schedule allows people to see your content more often and therefore engage with it more.
Make sure you’re posting valuable content. Don’t post just to post!
