I have been on Steemit for about 48 hours as this post goes up. I learned some things that I wanted to share.
I was very excited about diving deep into most will call the wave of the future. People make comments all the time but they don't get paid for it. I'll be honest and say the big draw was the amount of money that people were making from their clever posts and replies to other people's posts. I personally feel clever but maybe to the 20%. The other 60% which you would call mainstream might not get me which I'm ok with. The big draw has changed to getting to know the 20%. How I can create a connection whether it's with Cryptocurrency or Traveling to swim with pigs which is trending but you guys already know that.
In the Begining (48 hours ago)
I logged on and instantly I felt like the first day at a new school. I looked around for the biggest kid and tried to make friends. In my case, I had to find the big kids on the block. I read one post and looked into this person's profile. They had 778 followers, 1250 posts, and 87 following. I thought that these people that he was following must be pretty important so maybe I should too. I created a spreadsheet and collect data of when they started on Steemit, Followers, Posts, and people they were Following. From this data, I noticed that there were two types of people that stood out.
- People who follow people because of their content on their posts.
- People who follow people because you care enough to follow them.
I noticed that people who have great content have tons of followers but don't have time to follow others. They can have 6,000 followers but only following 48 people. Shouldn't it be the same amount of followers to people you are following?
The Revelation!
I wanted to be different and show people love by following them. For some people, this will make their day. One more person thinks I'm awesome even if I don't post anything. Sometimes people don't really want to hear what you have to say until they know how much you care.
The How
The theory was that I was going to find the people that would follow you because you would follow them. The problem is that they were mixed up with the people who follow people who create great content. The solution was to follow everyone that follows others. At first, I started following 87 people who were the people that were being followed by the person who wrote the first post I read. I realized I needed to follow the people that were following him. From the first 87 people, I found people that had thousands of followers. I started following them. I found one person that had 8,000 followers and was following an astounding 40,000 people. I wasn't about to follow 40,000 people but maybe I could do half of 8,000. I started going down the 87 people list and started following people that were following them.
The Misconception
When we look at followers we don't associate the name with the number. All we see is the number. We all see 8,000 followers but It's not until we go into their profile and see the person's name. As I was following people I noticed that the more people I was following that the fewer people I had to follow. By the time I reached 5,700 people I was only added a few new people. I would go into someone's profile and try to follow their followers but I was already following them. Out of a thousand people that were following them I probably only added 10 people to my following list.
The Bottom Line
People are valuable. In my honest opinion, if someone takes the time to read and comment on your post, they desire a follow. It is the circle of Steemit!
Thanks for stopping by. Have an awesome day!!! I would ask you to follow me but I'm probably already following you. : )
Great insight on followers, I was a little confused on how it all worked, thanks for the post.

Welcome to Steem sonny808. I like you observation and believe you are right. I slowly over about 6 weeks was able to get 100 followers by commenting and greeting other newbies . People really do like for you to take time to read their post and they know by the comment that you did read their post. For me patients works like eating an elephant one bite at a time . Right now 1000 followers looks like an elephant but I will get there just like I got to 100. Best of luck to you and may you and your family live long and prosper. I up vote and follow all posts that I like.
