I don't need to tell you not to look directly at the sun, if you are old enough to read this you are old enough to know that. So this about making it less dangerous to view the sun in its special moment of glory.

Methods of looking at the eclipse and not burning out your precious retinas.

You still have time to get these basic corner store materials and put it together.

Method 1

NASA Approved PinHole Viewer

Materials needed
-2 Pieces of White Card Stalk Paper
-Aluminum Foil
-Tape
-Pin or Paperclip

Step 1
In the middle of the paper cut a small square hole.

Step 2
Cut a square of foil large enough to cover the hole in the paper. Tape the foil over the hole.

Step 3
With the pin or paperclip poke a tiny hole in the centre of the foil.

Step 4
Play Time!
Place the other unused white paper on the ground. Hold the piece with the pin hole high over the paper on the ground casting the shadow directly onto the grounded paper.

The pinhole will project the light of the eclipse on to the paper. The further away the pinhole camera is to the paper on he ground the larger the image will appear.

Feel free to, carefully, stand on a chair and make the image much larger.

For Fun
You can poke several holes in the tinfoil and each hole will project another image of the eclipse on to the paper on the ground.

Now your eyes are safe and sound and you can see the eclipse live without making it the last thing you ever see.

Method 2

Got some SBD's to blow?
Buy a proper viewing lenses or light blocking device.

Your standard welding visor light shield will not be strong enough!

There some very good quality welding light shields which might to the job but be sure to check with the sales rep. that has the right amount darkness to protect your eyes.

The new visors will automatically adjust the darkness depending on the brightness it detects. Damn technology is cool

Please double check with the sales person that it's graded for such brightness before you stare into the sun.

Watch it on TV or the internet. Its the safest way and you are sure to get the details as they will have the best resources to see and share the solar eclipse. And slow motion, zoom in etc...
