STEEMIT TIPS- 4 Steemit Tools I don't go 1 day without

in howto •  8 years ago  (edited)

So, you're new here and trying to figure out how to get rewards, how to get followers, how to get resteems, and hopefully how to write really good content that other people want to respond with. What you may not know is that a lot of stuff happens on AND OFF of the blockchain beyond steemit.com. So, I use a fair number of tools, but I wanted to give a glimpse inside my blogger's studio to let you see the 4 tools I can't live without. (that's a monkey with a stick tool by the way).

Discord

Screen Shot 2017-06-17 at 1.27.50 PM.png

This is your social hub. That I know of there are three sizable groups right now. In all of them your goal is to go in humble and try to make friends. Starting with please spam my post or starting a flame war isn't going to help you the way you're hoping it will. All these people want the platform to succeed, but if they deem you to be obnoxious or bad for the platform things could go down hill for you; where as, if they see you as helpful and great you might catch some big upvotes and resteeems.

Steemspeak Discord channel- This is the baby of @fyrstikken and @contentjunkie. They are old school cryptohounds that have been around the block for a while. You're likely to find over 100 people in there at any given time. Many of them have been around one another for a few years. That makes it a little intimidating for completely new people, but they are friendly as long as you're not spammy. I met so many people in there and made some great friends. It's a powerful group capable of pulling ned into it. So, you know they got Steemit sea legs. This channel is one of the reasons I created the one for minnows.

https://discord.gg/qjpRj7w

Whaleshares- This is the baby of @officialfuzzy. He's an oldhat to crytpto sharing idea's with Dan before Steemit was even a thing. He's an old WoW buff like me and a BTS advocate. He's the brain behind whaleshares and thinks of it as a way to reward people in his Steemit guild. He was actually a big inspiration to me to create the Minnow Support Project within Discord and think about using the community bot to support others. The future of Steemit will be in curation guilds and he showed me that.

https://discord.gg/GykFB6S

PALnet- This is my baby. We're about to hit 500 people that have visted us. This morning we were at 98 just sitting in the channel. We're dedicated to helping new people on the platform find success. If you're new it's the best place on the web to get the help you need on steemit and start finding a community. The whole thing is public and free. Technically you need 0.001 steem or sbd to register for the public community bots, but someone will give that to you. We have 4 senior witnesses and a jr witness (Proph is still a legal minor) that all support that community with their upvotes, resteems, support, and guidance.

https://discord.gg/HYj4yvw

Steemit Chat-

If you're not on Steemit chat as a minnow you're doing it wrong. This place is filled with Steemit legends and people are on there around the clock. I know folks trade early follows, promote their articles, find groups with a similar mindset. There's even a Minnow Support Project channel #MSP. I currently get like 12-15 messages a day there and I've reached out to lots of people through there that I wouldn't have any other way to find. Flat out 100% if you're not on steemit chat you're doing it wrong.

Screen Shot 2017-06-17 at 1.43.12 PM.png

Hop into general chat and be sure to tell @acidyo that @aggroed sent you.

Esteem

esteem- I didn't need something like this when I first started. But follower maintenance as you grow is a real thing. You need to be able to connect with people through the comments sections on your posts. Most people ignore the comments, but the follower-whales I know are obsessed with them. If you want to be able to do that while on the go you need a mobile app, and for that reason it's a total blessing.

The mobile platform is great for curating and commenting. I've done some transfers on it. It's also great for checking how posts are progressing. Occasionally it has some broadcast errors. I'm having a little trouble uploading images, but every update makes that thing better, and it's really easy already to recommend using it. Like I said. It's a daily tool for me.

Here's an early post about it.
https://steemit.com/steemit/@good-karma/what-is-steem-mobile-esteem

One thing to keep in mind is they have a small 5% post reward fee to use it when you're posting or curating. But to me that's a pretty sweet tradeoff for going mobile with Steemit. @good-karma did a great job makin' this so show him some witness love if you end up using it.

Steemdb

Last up is Steemdb.com. I don't know if I should be proud or scared of how addicted I've become to this site. It's not super newb friendly because it uses terms that are the actual backbone of the blockchain and some coding terms, but if you want a live update of what's going on the blockchain look no further. You can get updates to who is voting witnesses, your posts, who follows, who is replying. You get a live feed of all the clicks that are taking place.

As a witness I can check settings. I can check who is voting or unvoting me. I can check total votes. I can see inside individual blocks my server is witnessing, and I can check to see how many blocks it gets. If you're a minnow it's probably not that important as it'll go too slow. If you're a dolphin it's hard to resist.Screen Shot 2017-06-17 at 4.54.53 PM.png

@jesta is basically the sickest programmer around. Send him some love if you end up using this tool.

Honorable Mentions

I can't really live without my steemvoter or streemian apps right now. I've used and advocated for steemvoter for a while. It autovotes authors I like at times I like. I think of it like a Steemit Patreon account. It let's me support their work even if I can't hit every post. Some folks game it to try to maximize rewards by hitting only the people on the trending page before their posts go to the moon. But I have a lot of folks that I htink are good posters that I just try to show some automatic love to and then I can curate additional ones mannually. If you're already on it consider adding @minnowsupport. It only posts once a day or less, but your upvotes can help a whole community of Minnows grow. If you have questions visit the steemvoter channel in steemit chat or ask @cryptomancer.

Streemian is a cool app where you can find curators who are good and just follow them. If you dont' have the time to curate a lot, but still want the rewards and help good people you can find a curation trail you trust and follow them. Minnow Support has one on the front page so you can trust that to spam out a thousand votes a day to minnows who could use your votes. Just keep the power setting low or we'll drain your vote power in an hour.

3%!!!!

Wow that's even worse than when I Randowhaled my post and got 8%... 😞

lol

lol.. randowhale is fraud

Well, that sucks!

It depends on his current voting power. If it's low, you'll get a low upvote.

Lots of good info here @aggroed
Lots of things I"m not doing that I need to start doing! :)

keep up your good work and giving tips to newbies to succeed here
thanks for helping the community man

This is actually the good stuff. These are actually the tools I learned over the last couple of days. And now I am hooked. Don't believe that we had the pleasure to talk yet but I am confident it will happen anytime soon. Cheers and Steem on!

Sure. I'm always lurking. Can't wait to meet.

Lurking haha. Good one. But you can't hide from me :P

After reading @acidyo and @aggroed comment spree, this meme makes perfect sense

And as always, great work on the post and your Minnow Support!

that's me when reading steemit.chat most of the time, its funny when people take me seriously

Dax att sova nu. God natt och tack så mycket!

@aggroed apologies for hijacking your comment trail with some Swedish...

i'll vote on some of the other comments so this doesn't take all the view.

See, dropping posts in the comments section is where it's at for minnows.

Yes, will be well earn $ to support my new Challenge. :)

Fuck he's rich. Look at that 80 cent post he dropped in here like a boss.

Great reminder to use all of these awesome apps @aggroed! Discord has become my go to app and I usually have it open every morning I turn on Steemit. Great job with PALnet and the Streemian minnow trail! I'm gonna start using Steemit chat more often as well as the eSteem mobile app which I just downloaded yesterday!

Just make sure you tell @acidyo hi for me when you're on there

Will do @aggroed, can't wait to meet him there!

thank you for sharing @aggroed. I think I finally have to spend some time in the different Discord channels. I heard of them already but didn't use them so far, which seems a bit foolish to me know after reading your Post 😅

yeah, all the magic happens there.

And I've missed out on it so far, damn... 😒 Gotta change that!

Very informative post. I use most of them on a daily basis as well.

Upvoted, excellent work.

Following. First found you through @gardenofeden and @saramiller in one of their posts!

Peace.

out of all the memes I posted you chose that screenshot, eh :p

I can tell you chose it on purpose by the side bar being scrolled up, lol.

yep. you're welcome to drop the meme of my portrait. Shit's funny.

aggroed you give me hope

LOL

Selectively placed! Come drop your meme!

You know it would've looked better had you not included the full screenshot so users couldn't see you picked which part to post, right? :P

This is the last post I'm answering from you until you drop the meme you made about me. It could have, yes, but then we couldn't have had this chance encounter on my wall. Speaking of which, it's lovely to have you here. I've made you some cake.

I found it myself.

Gratz, don't forget to randowhale your own post!

I don't even remember it anymore, you seem to be better at scrolling through the chats, I like the discord screenshot you chose too, classy.

Resteemed. Thanks!

Very good post. I got a little overwhelmed with all the info but I'll take it one step at a time. Thank you for all the information.

#aggroed Very informative! upvoted and followed, by the way there is one e missing on your post title for steemit :-D @aggroed

Thanks. Fixed!

I love this post. I am just getting started with Steem and I am overjoyed that this is one of the first posts I have read. Thank you soooo much for all of the information in this post. I am heeding all of your advice. You are awesome.

Thank you @aggroed, very useful post : )

Good job @aggroed

i love discord for gaming but for some reason i'm not sure why i can't chat/voice in there. not that i can't i've just not engaged yet. i guess it's like walking into a pub and you don't know anyone! :)

PALnet is 5 days old and filled with newbies. It's a pretty good place to just say hi and find others that are int the same boat.

i might drop in then and say hello tomorrow. just finishing of some gaming for the night here (uk) then watch some cheesy 80's movie and call it a night, i'll try and drop in tomorrow! :)

peace abundance liberty? hell yea.

Thank you for sharing this post upvoted and resteemed !

Your tipps on prevent beginners having accidents on Steemit.

... a big thank you for that. Very useful.

Haha maybe we should incorporate a #aggroed tag on Steemit posts for us minnows to get a little more awareness ;)

I know... I really have to raise my profile on the site.

Boom. Done. Post that and I'm sure you'll be trending in 27 minutes.

Great advice as usual and all tools I have in my arsenal.

For sure join the PALnet chat on discord

I use all of those tools, @aggroed. Thanks for sharing this awesome post!

Always happy to see you on my wall bud.

I did´nt know that Steemit Chat was that important, must give it a try! And Esteem as well, being mobile is important too!

Great info! I'm still green here and trying to learn all I can about how things work.

Steemit will, give back the rewards to the people and not to the big Companies !

Thank you for the help. I'm very interested in being able to grow and find a niche or two to add value to the community.

Come join the Discord channel!

I created my account but I'm waiting to get steem to activate the bots. I'm working toward getting my steem voter and streemian accounts setup.

resteemed so I can reread this more carefully later, just quickly skimmed it now, as I have a friend on their way over to visit. What I did get read of it, seems like a lot of great information. That I want to make sure I use. Now I will be able to find this again. I really appreciate post like this, it helps me understand Steemit better.

I like the techno too

Thank you for this info @aggroed!

Thanks for the info @aggroed

Thanks for sharing and as a noob its super helpful. Thank you so much!
Upvoted!

This is great!!! Resteemed. I see so many posts that blandly list the various Steemit tools, but this one goes into so much more depth. In fact, even though I am not really a newbie, I still learned so much! Thanks man. Steem on!

Glad it helped!

This is a seriously impressive set of info for a newbie. I had only ever used (minimally) steemdb before reading this post, but I will be sure to check the others out, at the very least

Nice post. I´m really interested for a new Post

Nice

Resteemed as this helped me out bigtime in my first week here on steemit

I've never checked out SteemDB before.
Will do now.

Thanks for this post!

yeah, this is exactly what I needed. I know straight up that I have great content, and that I have the personality to make friends and see their worlds through steem. But as someone who is into crypto as a fun side trading game (I don't have the liquid assets or the balls to do it right) I don't understand a lot of the technology as well as I should, and I don't know the ins and outs of doing right by this platform and the community.

Looking forward to dipping my toe in chat and finding people around the world to visit and photo! A heartfelt thanks from a minnow who isn't really sure what the hell she's doing — I've hoarded my stories and photos for so long that I had no idea how badly they were clawing to get out.

You're perfect! We can't wait to see you in there!

you're fast on the draw — perfect might be a bit generous, but I'll take it!

totally derp question, since we're now almost chatting: is Discord voice only? Everyone talks about hearing each other for real reals, and I don't know if that would work well with my very pedestrian day job.

It can be. Right now it's mostly chat on PALnet.

Thanks for sharing it bud! Followed and resteemed :)

thank you for the tipps!

Very helpful post, thanks for sharing!

Chat rooms are not my favorite thing, I type way too slow to keep up a conversation.

Love this post - already using all these tools, but discovered more Discord channels. Thanks.

Followed. Upvoted. Casting Witness vote. Excellent philosophy!

Thanks for the helpful post

The best thing about Steemit is how the community really share tips with the Newcomers. Anyone who pays attention is bound to make it big on Steemit.

Thanks @aggroed

Power to the Steemians!

thanks for the tips!

Although I did try out the steemit chat and was not impressed.

This is great! I joined some of the Discord channels :)

that'll serve you well

@aggroed thats a good piece of information up voted

Upvoted,Resteem, Excellent Work.

Great info and definitely lots of places to check out stuff and learn from.. Thanks

I signed up for Discord but haven't used it yet. I need to familiarise myself with it.

yep. It isn't super easy to get started.

Ok. I am at steemit.chat now. Hm... it looks like a public forum, yes?
What happens when people private messages you to "exchange votes"?

I scream at my computer in a rage.

haha. I think in the promotion chat room there's someone desperately trying to get upvotes. :p
He even private messaged me despite I already upvoted his post with comments

Thanks for the tips!

Dumb question - how do you get into steemit chat?

UPVOTED ...!

Thanks for this post. It really helped me get some votes, especially from PAL on discord.

Terrific news

very useful and innovative information I learned a lot here

thank you for sharing @aggroed. I think I have to spend some time in the different Discord channels. I heard of them so far, which seems a bit foolish to me know after reading your Post 😅. now I just realized it was wrong for me ,, thank you @aggroed you've realized it ..

your article is very good, why I can not share your post.
@aggroed

Thank you. This is the most useful post I have found, so far. I am a newbie here and am finding things a little confusing.
