How to make wood look old?

in howto •  7 years ago

Hi everyone.

In my first post here on steemit i said i would also like to contribute in telling you about my hobby, which is amateur woodworking.

Today i would like to advise you how to make new wood make look old.

First, and most laborious stage is to break the fresh fibers, which are soft and easy to remove with a copper brush.

Wood starts to have a texture, which looks like it was damaged by water, wind and other stuff which makes old wood look old ;)
Then we can put first layer of wood paint (i hope mordant is more appropriate word).

Next step is optional. I burnt wood a little bit and made some random holes and damages.

Then you have to grind it with a sandpaper.
Last stage i made was to put second layer of mordant and wood wax. After applying wood wax remember to polish the wood. The final effect on pics.
