How To "Force" 4G LTE on Android phones

in howto •  7 years ago  (edited)

Have you ever been in a situation where you know exactly that your area has a strong 4G signal, yet your phone keeps dropping to 3G? Annoying isnt it? Well, I have the exact right solution for this problem. This is a guide on how to Force your phone to be always connected to the 4G Network.

As you can see above, I have my network settings to LTE/3G/2G, it will connect to the best available network at the time, but now the phone is connected to H+ (3G),  so how do I make the phone to constantly connect to the 4G LTE Network? Simple Solution.

Step 1:

Download and install 4G Only Network Mode    from the Google Play Store and launch the app, you will see this screen.

Hit Open Secret Settings

Step 2:

Under Set Preffered Network Type, choose  LTE ONLY

This will automatically force your phone to exclusively connect to the 4G LTE only network, Do note however that you will not be able to make nor receive calls if this option was set. My advice is to select 4G LTE only, then AFTER the phone has connected to 4G LTE network, switch it back to LTE/UMTS auto (PRL). That concludes the tutorial on how to force 4G LTE on any phones running Android.

FOR SAMSUNG GALAXY S8 / NOTE 8

This is an extra setting that may be applied to your device if you feel that the connected 4G LTE network is slow, I am using DiGi as my telco company, and DiGi uses Band 3 (1800 Mhz), Band 7 (2600 Mhz) and Band 8 (900Mhz). However, Carrier Aggregation  only works with Band 3 and Band 7. DiGi does not utilise Band 8 as part of this program. The purpose of Band 8 is simply just to have better coverage as it's waves better penetrate walls, so its primarily aimed at indoor users, the speed is simply lacking compared to Band 3 or Band 7. Here is a better explanation from DiGi on how Band 8 works

How to know which band you are connected to currenty?

1. Open up phone dialer, and dial this code

*#0011#

2. This menu will show up, choose Stack 1

2. Your current network configuration will be shown, as you can see, I am now connected on the slow Band 8 spectrum

So how to disable Band 8?

1. Open dialer, dial

*#2263#

2.  Select Stack 1 as shown in the screenshot above

3. Under Network Setting, choose Band Disable

4. Under Band Disable Setting, choose  [0] LTE

5. Choose [8] LTE_8[*]

Tadaaaa! You have finally disabled Band 8 LTE, and now are connected to 4G+ network (Band 7 + Band 3), your cell info should show something like this

no need to install app, just enter "*#*#4636#*#*" and menu with network settings will open up

That works on a Galaxy S7, doesn't work on the S8
