Introduction


Greeting all steemians! Today i wanna share about initial management and treatment for minor injury. Have you experienced sprain or strain?and what you do?most of people will immediately go to the hospital/clinic to see a doctor ar sometime just taking painkiller only. Do you know that, if you have a minor injuries like ankle sprain or another type of sprain or strain, therapy R.I.C.E is the most recommended first treatment. Your doctor will ask you to do this: rest, ice, compression and elevation.

The advantages of RICE?


This is a simple self care technique- to treat minor injuries at home. RICE method Will helps to ease pain, reduce swelling, and the good thing was can speed up healing.

When to use R.I.C.E therapy?


As soon as possible after an injury, such as a achy knee, or ankle sprain or strain after playing sports. The faster you apply this RICE method, the faster pain and swelling resolve, thus promote speedy healing and flexibility. But, if the pain or swelling getting worse or doesn’t go away, please see your doctor for further treatment.

  1. Rest - stop from any type of activity, to prevent worsening of the injury. Take a break or you can change you type of sport.

  2. Ice - for your information, cold can reduce pain and swelling. Apply the ice(cold pack) right away to minimize pain and swelling. Preparation: Place a towel over the ice or cold pack, then apply it to the skin(injury area) for 15-20 minutes, severals times a day.

  3. Compression - compress to the injured or sore area with an elastic bandage. (your also can wrapping it with Ace wrap). Compression will help your to decrease the swelling. But, don't wrap it too tightly, let it a bit loosen. If the bandage are too tight, this can cause more swelling below the affected area. Always check the signs of bandage too tight, it is include numbness and tingling, sometimes the pain and swelling increased(below the bandage area).

  4. Elevate - the last part is make sure to elevate the injured area on the pillows anytime when you are lying down(during sleeping), or whlie applying the ice. Make sure to keep the sore area above the level of your heart, it's to help minimize the swollen.

    When to get medical attention?

  • If any deformities happens (the joint or bone),when you start moves abnormally!

  • When you cannot use the limb to bear weight as usual.

  • Excessive swelling (more often mix with unsolve pain)

  • when your can see the changes in skin color(more dark blue)

Conclusion


RICE always choosen as the first treatment in moderate or minor injuries such sprain and strain. If the condition it's not getting any better after a few days of RICE therapy, you may need to see doctor.
