Takemyvotes - How it Works, Step by Step.steemCreated with Sketch.

in howto •  7 years ago  (edited)

Let's use last night's contest as an example.

I ran a contest, just upvote me to to win - Simple.

A lot of people didn't really know how it could benefit them, so here is the technical stuff. Like what I do behind the scenes to make you more money.

Here is how it works. After 24 hours my vote tally and income looks like this.

There were 141 people voted on my post. Every vote that arrives after this point will add money to the normal curation reward they receive - Lots more if they are whales voting after you did. Get it? So I wait for things to calm down and I pay for a big vote! The big vote triggers a few hundred frontrunner votes, then comes the big one. (more detail below)

Steemd.com/@htooms looks like it has slowed down after 24 hours. No action really. I was just voting on comments.

So it's time to get the ball rolling and call in some heavy duty voters!!!

  • Here's how

So I go and pay booster to give me a vote sometime in the next hour or so. He agrees.

paybooster.jpg

The frontunners guild detects that someone wants a big vote. They swarm in to vote just before booster does

And here they come

First prize goes to all voters.

  • Two hours ago it looked like this - 24 hours of votes and comments.
    before.jpg

  • I kicked in about $40 SBD and the crowds came running in, adding 272 more votes!

check your curation rewards on this post 6 days from now and you will see that you made WAY more than usual.

The comment prize of 20 SBD goes to @michaelcj

He tied with @dante31, but @michaelcj got more money on his comment - Winner.

Older contests I ran.

I used to delegate large whale votes to winners but now, I have moved my SP to an exchange where it's not so public.

Thank you for posting htooms.

Steemians love it........thank you for the information.

What a way to spend those SBDs.......we appreciate what you bring to Steemit.......E'spirit de Corp.......

All the best. Cheers.

Well, I spent 48 on a big vote and 20 on a comment prize. I got $48 dollars for the post after paying those two prizes. Everyone walked away having fun. Did it up my reputation? Maybe. Do I have new followers? Maybe. Will people immediately open my next post. Yes.

Did I spend anything? No - I made $48.00
Some you win and some you lose , but this one was a win, win, win, win, win, contest for everyone except those who were too skeptical to click a vote.

It was just an original idea and I hope you played.

Thank you for your reply htooms.

Of course...bleujay played....and did a bit of rounding up Steemians on the side.

bleujay appreciates a can-do....positive...energetic attitude and unique ideas....which are in your posts in spades.

Wishing you all the best. Cheers.

Yes.... good to see that rep number climbing once again. ^_^

Well, I spent 48 on a big vote and 20 on a comment prize. I had $48 dollars left for me and everyone walked away having fun. Did it up my reputation? Maybe. Do I have new followers? Maybe.

@htooms when the whale is summoned to vote for a post, wil the frontrunner curationrewards be bigger then a selfvote?

If done correctly, yes! That in itself is a game of chance. If someone puts in a higher bid than yours, you lose big time.

And you can't wait until the end to send your bid because then there is no time for the frontrunners to run in and get their votes in.

Hmmmmmmm. I have been trying to study how this trick really works. Steemit is really comprehensive in study and needs a lot of time.

You just gave a simple explanation of how you get extra votes. I think I'll have to try it.

Thanks you for the winning prize you sent to me. Thanks to @dante31 who asked me to check on your blog. He is a whale at heart. Thanks to everyone who voted for me.

I dedicate the prize to @steemnaira community for delegation of Steem Power. We are all minnows with undervalued content. I and other Admins will continue to support those minnows that needs assistance as we also get support from people like you. Thank you so much

It's your Blockchain Entertainer
@michaelcj

I am new to Steem and still learning too!

Thanks for the response. Minnows just need to keep putting themselves out there, like a comedian, a salesman, a mechanic (as I started out). You have to have heart, personality, and communicate, or make people laugh. Make them dream. Give them an escape. That is what will stop those nasty $0.00 posts. I know I went through a lot of them and even quit several times.

Hello @htooms

Wow! I am just seeing this. Congartulations to @michaelcj . This is just awesome.

You deserve the win. Our vision to improve ourselves and help minnows will never go dry.

thanks for the compliment @michaelcj

Thanks to @dante31 who asked me to check on your blog. He is a whale at heart.

I feel good already.

@htooms you are very right. When I got in here first. I was lost. Was a wanderer and did not know what to do. I felt like I was abducted and dumped in this social blockchain.

Luckily I found myself in time and ever since I have been hunting down(LOL) any minnow I see that is going the wrong way to do the right thing.

P.s I am still a struggling minnow.

Thanks again for oyur support and funny cool contest.

Cheers

@dante31

Ok @htooms I'm sitting here reading through my feed looking to learn and apply something new to my understanding of Steemit.

So, it's your post that's caught my eye this morning the mechanics behind the upvoting etc is really interesting.

When you run the next one I look forward to being part of it.

Thanks for sharing :)

Hello @htooms, you are doing a fine job. Allowing some minnows get something. :)

Now I understand what you were talking about. Very cool.

BTW nice to see you are still around.

Hello @htooms

You are really doing a great job by using this contest (commenting on your post and get rewarded). It really help to motivate minnows as most steemians don't normally find it easy doing it because they don't have time to go through posts and thereby they don't really have any contribution to make. Some steemians prefer to just upvote on posts rather than finding time to go through it. Whereas commenting on posts help to give guidlines as regards what a post is really all about and help those that might not have time to go through the main gist of the post.

Your effort is fully appreciated. Also, thanks for the step by step on how it works. - #takemyvotes
Keep the good work going

@maintain4real-eu

The best way to explain this is CHUMMING the Big Whales, lol!!!

Great job, a friends just said that you are her favourite whale. Keep it up!

Congratulations dear friend @htooms for the great work you are doing on the platform, many here should follow your example, to reward and motivate people as you do.
You are worthy of the success and the admiration of many people we have towards your work.
never change, only the success will be in your way, we always receive double what we give.
For my part I wish you a life full of success. !!!!!
Have a happy and prosperous week

Waooo @htooms is a great job ... I have upvote and resteem and follow you.

Its really nice post . I like this post

hey, what have you been up to, I was out and about and I'm tired of reading countless posts for no pay :D well maybe I lack the grit others have, but I'm not about to beat myself over not being a big fish :D

nice to see the comments, to be fair from what I've seen you were always helping and helpful to the little fishes, you still up for making a better image of steemit?

should be easy with the new color scheme :P

front-runner does pretty well for curation rewards in general.

fantastic post my friend, well you describe gracefully the in depth analysis of getting good curation rewards, if someone votes and after his or her vote big whales gives vote to that particular content then the peoples who voted before whales get's good curation rewards and it's basically creating a win win situation for all.

Now how i comment on posts, i first try to read and understand that what actually author of the post trying to tell us, then i note the good aspects of that post in my mind then i try to create the comment that some how increases the value of the content and benefit the reader and also sounds positive, well that's how i do commenting and i don't learn it from anyone it all comes in through regular commenting. Stay awesome my friend and thanks for creating nice and easy earning opportunities for all.

nice post also invite to look my post..):

Your all post is awesome. Its informative attractive and useful. Really Appreciated. @htooms

wow ! wonderful post.loving to your blog.
upvoted

Good job.i upvote with resteem your post.

Wow...who would have thought a contest out of fun could yield this much....Great @htooms

@htooms you are sure doing great and i must say commenting on peoples blog has been my habit and lastly you have showed another trick. Steemit is broad and as you progress you get acquainted and lastly benefited. Thanks for your support

As commented on your other post, I like the idea of gaming the frontrunner gamers although I am not a fan of the 'pay for vote' plague that is currently swamping the system. I am hoping that some of the manual curation groups will get supported to continue spreading their value.

Perhaps, once people see the benefits of manual curation on quality content, they will more heavily front run those instead of the paid whale votes.

What I do like however is that you continually play and experiment with different aspects of voting behaviour and this is invaluable as it keeps inspiring more and more to understand and 'perhaps' experiment and learn too. Thanks.

But, it is not my area of knowledge so I will keep writing :)

This is a free platform and as in the wild west, there were undesirable things. Like baths once a week!?!

I am playing the system to get some of those rewards attached onto the backs of the participants. ie; the Minnows.

I enjoy watching :)

Thanks for sharing this and thanks for encouraging Steemians with contests like this. Congratulations to the winner!

Very informative and excellent post ;) Thanks for sharing.

Dear @htooms
It's Works..
I Hope You May Check My Last Post

any reason you don't include the 10th and 11th editions? :P
and curious, are you accumulating alts now or going full bitcoin ?

Wow. Let's keep the numbers unreal...

Let's say I retired on bitcoins, then when they got so slow that a transaction took a week, I pulled out and went to dash (at 9.00)
Dash brought me a million when it went to 300+ each. I cashed out 1/3 of that.

Then I invested 20k in steem because there was a flagger causing people to quit.
Steem was dropping and I kept buying till I was getting it for under .04 cents per.

I flagged the bad whales back and had a full blown war with several desolate souls here at the time.

By the time all of that was over, I had gained more than a million here.
I quietly cashed out 6,000 dollars per day for several months while moving the rest my money around - trying to stay anonymous. Notice there are no pictures of me on here? That is because if they can ID you then they can tax you.

Now I am done moving things around and I am back to have more fun here.

Great to hear about your crypto journey, glad to know its been very fruitful!
Steem at 0.04 😍 what a way to get in...
Yeah, the flagging and wars was bad stuff, but I guess it will be a part of Steemit folklore.
Good to see you back, have lots of fun and be around :)

Bot vote ponzi scheme. That's an interesting experiment, well done. Is this something that will continue, a stop gap booster, or just a series of proof-of-concept posts?

I'm glad you rewarded the best comment, and I'm glad michaeljc made that comment, most people miss out on the wonderful interaction that can start with a simple yet meaningful comment.

I've shared experiences, advice, empathy, and even produced some photographic post-edit works through interacting with other steemians in the comment section.

4 months, 200 followers is not bad. Many of us had to put up with a lot of goose eggs in the $ section of our posts for a long time. It hurts to put hours into a really well done post and have 4 views. I have been there.

Keep going, find catchy titles and eye catching photography for the cover photos. Then always interact w ith people who vote on you and comment on you. Give it a year and tell me how your new Cadillac drives.

"It hurts to put hours into a really well done post and have 4 views"

Indeed.

Timing seems to be a critical factor: no matter how good the post, how catchy the title or thumbnail, if it doesn't get an audience upvoting it in the first few seconds then it is buried from view and as such very little interaction is likely to come of it.

Those first few seconds count, really count. Get a bunch of upvotes and some $value in the first few seconds then others are likely to upvote it too, albeit without even reading (as happened to my nomination post, 48 votes but only 3 views), and that helps 'float' the article like a salmon red fish swimming upstream against a torrent.

Otherwise you're all but sunk, go write another, decide whether it's worth investing anything at all in it.

Enlightening post! Thx for sharing!

like your post

you're doing a great job.tnx

I love this contest, I hope you have more, soon! :-)

Wow.... great idea .... i will upvote as soon as my Steem power % goes back up.....

Upvoted .... I like what you are doing here....
