How to Skin a Rabbit – A Step by Step Guide

How do you skin your rabbit? I was going to write a post about how to prepare grilled peppered rabbit but realized that some people may not know how to skin a rabbit, so I thought it would better to write a post about how to skin a rabbit before teaching you how to grill it.

Health benefits of eating rabbit meat are so much, rabbit meat is good for dieting because it has very low cholesterol. Let’s go ahead and learn how to skin it.

Steps by Step Guide to Skin a Rabbit

There are three ways I know by which you can skin a rabbit. One method is by using burn fire to burn off the fur from the rabbit, another method is to use knife and cut markings on the rabbit and tire it off while the method I use most is using hot water to peel off the fur on the rabbit.

Step 1: Chop off the head of the rabbit

Kill the rabbit in a humane manner and chop off the head. I won’t bother showing you how I killed it but I will show a picture of an already killed rabbit with its head chopped off.

Step 2: Put the rabbit in a deep bowl and pour boiled hot water into it

When pouring the hot water, make sure you pour it all over the body of the rabbit and ensure that the hot water you poured in covers the whole body of the rabbit so that all the skin can be removed easily.

Step 3: Leave the rabbit inside the hot water for 10 minutes

Allow the rabbit to stay in the hot water for 10 minutes, this is to allow the water sink into the fur and loosen it from the body of the rabbit.

Step 4: Pluck out the fur from the body of the rabbit

This is really easy to do, just grab a bunch of fur and pull it and they’ll go off. Don’t grab too much though, you can see the quantity am grabbing in the picture to guide you.

Step 5: Rub your hands on the rabbit and remove any fur left

After plucking the fur off the rabbit just rub your hands on the body of the rabbit as if you are messaging it. This will make you see any leftover fur on the body of the rabbit. Remove all leftover fur so the body will very smooth.

Step 6: Cut off the rabbit’s feet

You will notice I didn’t bother plucking off the fur on the feet of the rabbit, well that is because it is to be cut off. That part of the rabbit consists of a lot of bones with tiny meat and you don’t want to bother your teeth with that part of the rabbit so it has to be cut off.

That is it folks, your rabbit is skinned, smooth and ready for dissection depending on how you want to prepare it. Why I like this method of skinning a rabbit is because it is easy to do and doesn’t stress you at all.
