Saudi Arabia said it welcomes the offer of being a mediator of peace for Israel and the Palestinians. Saudi Arabia is expected to replace the United States (US) is considered neutral and more siding with Israel after recognizing Jerusalem to be the capital of Israel.
Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Indonesia Osama bin Mohammed Abdullah al-Shuabi said it was difficult to materialize because of the diplomatic problems of both countries. "Saudi Arabia does not have diplomatic relations with Israel, it is impossible for us to mediate," Osama said as quoted by Anadolu Agency on Wednesday (21/12).
He also denied the news of his country offering Abu Dis as the Palestinian capital as opposed to Saudi policy. "Since King Faisal, King Fahd, King Abdullah to King Salman, Saudi attitudes remain the same: Jerusalem is the capital of Palestine," Osama said.
Osama insists his country with the Arab world rejects the US decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. "Arab states are supporting Palestinian rights and expect the US to abide by the UN decision that Jerusalem is the Palestinian capital," he said.
Earlier, the Palestinians said the United States could no longer be expected to mediate because it had sided with Israel. The Palestinian people were disappointed with the US stance, they rallied in various parts of Palestine.
Now, the Israeli-occupied country is looking for an alternative country to become a mediator of peace. Palestinians hope East Jerusalem will be the capital of their future.
