When purchasing a new smartphone, many users consider important the score that the device can achieve in one of these popular performance tests (or benchmarks). Now, the well-known Chinese smartphone manufacturer, of course, Huawei has been caught optimizing some of its best smartphones to get a higher score on these tests.
According to a well-known tech news blog, AnandTech, responsible for this discovery, the Huawei P20 has been programmed to maximize its performance specifically when it is passed by 3DMark, a popular application to perform such evaluations. The company behind the application, today, confirmed the findings and reported that it would take the P20, and others, from its list of phones to test.
Others more? You are right. Among the smartphones excluded from now by 3DMark is includes the P20, the P20 Pro, the Nova 3 and the Honor Play.
Huawei pleads guilty?
The well-known Chinese smartphone manufacturer, of course, Huawei also issued statements for Android Authority. Here it said that their phones are designed to adapt to the application that is currently running.
“In normal benchmarking scenarios, once the Huawei software recognizes a benchmarking application, it intelligently adapts to the ‘Performance Mode‘ and offers optimal performance,” the well-known Chinese smartphone manufacturer, of course, Huawei said.
Although it does not explicitly state its guilt, the company claims that it is playing a little with the numbers to face its competition in China. “In the Android ecosystem, other manufacturers also cheat with their numbers,” said Dr. Wang Chenglu, president of Software in Consumer Business Group of Huawei.
Dr. Wang added that these kinds of practices are becoming common in China. Although the company wants to present itself to its consumers in a fair way, it has problems when its competitors present themselves with unrealistic scores.
According to AnandTech, it is understood that it is the impact of large numbers in marketing. However, entering the same dirty game with its competitors is the worst way to do it. For a company the size of Huawei, trying to cheat its customers is the worst way to ruin the brand’s image.
The well-known Chinese smartphone manufacturer, of course, Huawei, from the hand of Dr. Wang said that the company “always prioritizes the user experience instead of looking for high reference scores, especially since there is no direct connection between a score obtained in the benchmark and the user experience”.
Since the well-known Chinese smartphone manufacturer, of course, Huawei managed to overcome the tech giant Apple and became the second most consumed smartphone brand in the world, the accusations have not been long in coming. A few weeks ago the company was accused of misleading advertising when trying to make the camera of one of its devices pass like that of a professional.
