Yes, the human body is a truly amazing specimen. You don't believe me? Take a look at these 5 facts; you might be surprised by what you explore.

1. Hiccups were inherited by people

Hiccups are a remnant of our distant ancestors from 370 million years ago. Because these guys used to swim in the ocean, their bodies were equipped with both gills and lungs (there are still fish in Australia that can breathe using this method). Our forefathers used the mechanism known as hiccups to protect their lungs from water ingress.

2. Humans vs Slugs

Humans and slugs have a lot more in common than you might think at first glance. Our DNA is 70 percent identical to slug DNA. All animals, like plants, shared a common ancestor a long time ago: the DNA of a human and a banana is 50 percent identical. As a result, a human is half a banana or 40% cucumber. To some extent, all living creatures on Earth are related, this simply means that our evolution took a different path at some point in time.

3. Nails on fingers grow faster than nails on toes

Nails on fingers grow faster because they have more frequent contact with sunlight. Also, nails on your working hand grow faster than those on your non-working hand, while the longest nail is always on the middle finger. Moreover, the bigger the finger, the longer its nails are, however, no one knows for sure why.

4. Most heart attacks happen on Mondays.

The risk of having a heart attack increases by 20% for men and 15% for women on Mondays. It’s likely that it’s due to the stress caused by the necessity of getting back to work. However, scientists also warn us that alcohol consumed during the weekend can also become a reason for a heart attack

5. People lie more convincingly when they need to use the restroom.

People with a full bladder lie more convincingly. A strong desire to go to the bathroom makes a person concentrate on self-control and therefore, telling lies becomes more convincing. Moreover, they try to avoid extra movement. That’s why the experts who conducted a scientific experiment believed liars who were feeling like rushing to the toilet.
