Who are we

Recently, I am watching a TV serial which is STRAIN. If people are bit by the parasite, they will be turned into a kind of monster which are controlled by the Master. The just characters are looking for a book called Lumen to solve this catastrophe.

So who we are? How to define ourselves? Are we loyal to ourselves?

Homo Sapiens is the academic name for our whole group. According to the traditional definition, we can reproduce, breed and have live with other animals and plants. It is the most fundamental and simplest concept about introducing the group we are in.

Long long ago, if the male had sex with the female, without any accident, they would get their babies. However, in our current society, people can use the condom or take the pill to avoid pregnant. It means male+female+pill does not equal to the infant. It breaks the rule of that male+female=infant. So we have deflected the original way. Additionally, the technology of external fertilisation and CRISPR becomes more and more advanced. Through these two things, we even can gain the twins whose age gaps fifty years.

Secondly, we are fighting against the natural selection and random mutation. For instance, when I go to the rural area, there are numerous fields which holds regular crops orderly. However, it is strange in the natural environment and also breaches the natural rule. This kind of behaviours people did made approximately greater effect to the ecology. What’s more, urban city is another abnormal phenomena because any kind of animals or plants can be suited to this complexed and narrow surroundings which concludes countless species. Through the process of evolving, we can figure out homo sapiens are willing to take the power to decide any other lives and to arrange them.

In STRAIN, monsters long for the blood. Actually, in our daily lives, greed is the most important element to encourage human beings to evolve and develop the civilisation. In the primitive tribe, sapiens were eager for being the leader in this group because it would bring more females, food and fame to improve the condition of the life. Thus, every individual wanted to be better. When people stepped into the agricultural society, territory and seeds lured sapiens so people in the same group tried to unit together to fight against invaders. It paved a way for the development of sapiens’ social behaviours and skills. Moreover, in Buddhism, Buddha asks us not to pay much attention to the material and mortal world. If a person can obey this requirement, after his death, he will gain a nicer treat. To sum up, nobody is loyal to oneself. Desire incites us to keep our lives going on.
