"Grandpa Day..." by Richard F. Yates

This is the reason I can't get any writing done today. (Completely worth it, of course... She's a good kid, but babies are demanding!!!)

And this is the reason we have no nice (unbroken) things. (That's Cheese, the cat, seen here eating some cardboard boxes that WOULD have become artwork...if he hadn't eaten them...)

More bad news, (for me---perhaps humor for you,) the car that we've had in the shop for over three weeks is home...and our $3,700.00 bill was paid...but the car isn't actually fixed. They say it drives the same as it did when I dropped it off...

BUT, I get to drop it off AGAIN next week for a couple more days, and they'll put one more part on it that will, supposedly, fix it completely...

Meanwhile, we were originally told that everything should take about a week to fix when we first had the car looked at, (which we thought seemed like a long time...), so we rented a car to drive while ours was in the shop. But then one week became a week and a half, then two weeks, then three...and so on... Now, we're something like $600.00 into this mess already, JUST FOR THE RENTAL CAR! (If we'd know it was going to be more than a week, we could have bought a new battery for our older daughter's spare vehicle and just driven THAT for a month...)

And, to me, the WORST part about all of this is that I had to call the repair shop several times (sometimes multiple times in ONE DAY---three times just today) trying to get ANY information from them. If I hadn't called multiple times, would I STILL be waiting for that first call saying it was going to be more than the original seven day repair schedule??? Good news or bad, I would have appreciated being INFORMED of what was going on without having to call dozens of times begging for updates...

So here's the "happy" end to the story. We have the car back, and it supposedly drives "as well as it did when we dropped it off," as the lady told me on the phone---and I only had to give them $3,700.00 (plus $600.00 to the rental company) to get it back... NOT fixed, just back! A total bargain, I tell ya! A real STEAL of a deal!!!

And now my head fucking hurts, and I have to work until close tonight, after babysitting since 7:00 A.M. this morning... (She's napping right now, but her naps only tend to last about 20 minutes, so I've gotta hurry up and finish this!!!) Wup! She's awake! Gotta go!!!!
