On Wednesday, people from various walks of life paid their respects to the illustrious fiction writer, playwright, filmmaker, and lyricist, Humayun Ahmed, on the 11th anniversary of his passing.
Men adorned in yellow panjabi and women wearing blue sarees laid floral wreaths on Humayun Ahmed's grave at Nuhash Palli in Gazipur during the morning hours. Himu Paribahan, a platform for Humayun Ahmed's fans, has been commemorating his death anniversary since 2013, organizing various programs on this day.
Rafa Noman, the organizing secretary of Himu Paribahan, stated that members of the platform placed floral wreaths on Humayun Ahmed's grave in the morning and had plans to plant trees across the country as part of their tribute.
In addition to the platform's activities, Humayun Ahmed's widow, Meher Afroz Shaon, along with their two sons, Ninit and Nishad, also laid floral wreaths on his grave in the morning.
Humayun Ahmed, who was born on November 13, 1948, in Kutubpur, Netrakona, captured the hearts of Bangla fiction readers for more than four decades, penning a total of 200 works of fiction.
Among his literary creations are notable pieces like Nandita Narake, Phera, Jyochhna o Jananir Galpa, Deyal, Gouripur Junction, Amar Achhe Jol, Samrat, Dwoirath, Pakhi Amar Ekla Pakhi, Jalpadma, Aynaghor, Krishnapaksha, Janam Janam, Jol Jochhna, and many others.
Apart from his contributions to literature, Humayun Ahmed left a mark as a distinguished dramatist, directing drama series like Eisab Dinratri, Bahubrihi, Ayomoy, and Kothao Keu Nei.
He also ventured into the world of cinema, making his silver screen debut with the film Aguner Parashmani and subsequently directing films like Shraban Megher Din, Dui Duari, Shyamal Chhaya, Ghetuputra Kamla, and others.
Throughout his career, Humayun Ahmed was honored with numerous awards, including the Ekushey Padak, Bangla Academy Award, Shishu Academy Award, Lekhak Shibir Award, Humayun Qadir Smriti Puraskar, Zainul Abedin Swarna Padak, Michael Madhusudan Award, Bacsas Prize, and National Film Awards for Best Story, Best Film, and Best Dialogue.
Humayun Ahmed passed away on July 19, 2012, at Bellevue Hospital in New York, USA. His legacy continues to be cherished by his fans and admirers even after his departure.
