The law par excellence is the law of love, as explained by James: "If you keep the royal law found in Scripture, ´Love your neighbor as yourself´, you are doing right", James 2:8. And it is by this law that all men are equal, and brothers before the providence of God, there should be no favoritism in the assemblies and in dealing with others. In a world where men practice idolatry, that is, the cult of money, and devotion to power; God reminds us that it should not happen like this, greed is a bad counselor and self-love kills, the path of error leads to nothing good, that is why in a beautiful and inspirational quote the apostle James reminds us how the wisdom and understanding of God works in the lives of men: "God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.", James 4:6.
Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount teaches us that humility before God is a beatitude and pride a curse: "Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the kingdom of heaven" in Matthew 5:3.
The Magnificat, Maria's song, expresses it in another way: "He has brought down rulers from their thrones but has lifted up the humble. He has filled the hungry with good things but has sent the rich away empty.", Luke 1:52-52.
The apostle James continues with his teaching and explains what the true attitude of the converted person to the Kingdom of God should be: "Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before God, and he will lift you up.", James 4:7-10.
