managed to do a bit of optimising and setting up of the backend to accept crypto currency for t-shirts today, also done a payment receive and send on monese.com which worked from our other test site (beeb.ee) so we have some shirts on the way for our other project ;)
best thing about monese so far is that it has a statement feature as well which is perfect for showing sales and costs — keeps everything nice and clean if we decide to build this out as a company later on full time, we might need to do that to enable moving back and forth between the US and EU, who knows how things will pan out with Brexit, nobody really does.
So this last update I’ve done this. ..
- enabled gzip to compress the page to speed up the load
- got the load time down to around 1.03 secs! A Grade! :)
- set some 7 day expiry dates on files for speed improvements
- added to managewp for backups, will upgrade for realtime backups
- plugin for good analytics insights (at a glance)
- dabbling with steempress to blog straight to steem (yay!)
as you can see it’s super nice and speedy, really pleased with that, I might bolt on a CDN at some point when we have many t-shirts but for now nice and snappy, gotta do some load testing but I’m happy! :)
As much as I DONT want to put together this store with this platform (I’m kinda so over wordpress) it does the job on minimal costs to get up and running, I can bolt on lots of third party tools and cdn’s etc and tools to monitor and do campaign marketing to really push this but I think I’m just gonna keep building this out for other platforms.
Reason for this is that I’d like to put together a tutorial for many platforms to be able to build services that accept crypto currency and steem, we need to be able to spend (or keep the value) in the same place and get people to use this like money (just the digital version) naturally.
You’ll noticed that the site is super simple — it should be ultra easy to use and you should be able to send cryptos easily, I’m not totally sure if the steem payment plugin is going to work but the numbers for payment ‘look’ ok I just need to come up with a way to make sure I have a t-shirt ‘float’ amount of money so I’m working towards saving some funds for that.
The way is currently works is that I’ve set a price with printful with a 20/25% markup to cover any fluctuations in price from receiving funds and then sending them to the account that receives the payment, that account also will be used to furfill the order, keeping it relatively simple.
as long as funds exist I’ll get an email and then as long as the account has the money I can release the print request for the order and it’s all handled with the wonderful system over on printful — I’ve had to setup what coins I want to receive in so I’ve picked the fast one that are more common and included bitcoin now the price of network fees is lower.
i’m hoping not accepting fiat will motivate the exclusivity of owning crypto and just get people more into the idea of spending their ‘scratch’ funds they have made on their alt coins as the need arises — call it part store, part social experiment in some ways because I certainly want to see more services in the world accepting crypto.
Imagine if we could pay rent, buy food and book electric transportation with this stuff full time? I’d totally be down for a life like that, right? :)

One day, brother, you'll be there. Only instead of paying rent it'll be the mortgage on your fortress. Or house boat. Or island tipi. And I'll bring jet skis!
