Sadly, when one person gets some authority over a second person; they want more. Each time they gain more power, the second person is less free; and the first one still wants more! We are now in that spiral of power versus freedom.
Now the first person has decided that they are entitled to permanent use of that loaned power. This is the beginning of a permanent ruling class, or violence to remind the first that they are not rulers.
They do not seem to understand that:

Basically, using force to convert, does NOT actually convert! Only rational debate can do this; except they fear free thought and speech. Interesting mess!
The Founding Fathers here understood this problem in Human nature, and allowed for it in our Bill of Rights, by ensuring free speech, and ensuring we were armed, in case debate failed.

It shouldn't be a problem if it is gained with a proper license. But it will not be very common to own a gun here, most people don't.

A gun is only a tool, and the person carrying it is the intelligence that directs this tool.
If the intelligence directing the gun is Amoral or evil, the results will be bad; but if the intelligence guiding the use of that same gun is a good and Moral Man, it can be a blessing!

True, its all in the hands of the man carrying it, I believe everything could be used in both positive and negative ways, it's just on us.
Wow that is a perfect example of how similar tool can be used both ways, I am sure that girl would've been saved by a miracle but that guy deserved the bullet in his heart, wait a minute, I don't think he had any

It is interesting that every time there is a shooting here, it is a liberal doing the shooting. It is usually a conservative who stops it with a defensive firearm. When Morals are relative, one can justify just about anything!
He did deserve to be shot! The difference was the defensive firearm was practiced with, so he only needed one shot! He saved that girl's life....

True, we should not be liberal or conservative, we should just be nice people who have nice control over their emotions and who are never a threat to anybody else.
He saved the life of that poor girl, that is what matters more, we need more people like him who get up and react on time in such situations, frankly not many people would bother to react at most of the places if this happens again
