Midnight in Paris (2011)

in humor •  7 years ago  (edited)

Woody Allen’s prolific output has been especially hit-or-miss in recent years, with every “Blue Jasmine” offset by a “To Rome With Love.” None of his Continental romances have been quite as swoon-worthy as “Midnight in Paris,” whose nocturnal whimsy both embraces and rejects a rose-tinted vision of the past that you can’t help wanting to be part of. Owen Wilson proved the perfect (if seemingly unlikely) vessel for Allen’s golden-age musings, turning in his best performance in any movie not directed by Wes Anderson (honorable mention to “Shanghai Noon,” though). —MN
