The Power Of Euphemisms

in humor •  7 years ago

It's funny how things take on different meanings as they become an accepted part of the public lexicon... Things like "Kicking the Bucket" or "Pushing up Daisies" for dying. And, of course, where would we be with our bathroom euphemisms, such as, Taking a crap (why anyone would want to take one???) Colon Bowlin, the Aztec Two-step, or my favorite, Giving Birth to a Politician (I'd love to know when someone came up with that one). What got me thinking about this dirty subject was this cartoon that popped up on my Pinterest feed, by Bill Whitehead... This one really showcases the impact that a euphemism can have...

Is there a euphemism for when a trusted friend sticks up for you and you don't realise at the time? <3

"I've got your back." Lol there are so many interesting things we say daily and we just decode the randomness 😂 I love this cartoon also 😏

Like :)

I'm sure there is, but I'm not that smart!

great to know about this euphemisms words Im sure this can be usefull sometimes or some are using euphemisms words already and they are used to it.

Yes! Are you and your children doing ok?

Euphemisms- you can't live without em.

These days I often have to go and syphon the python, especially in the middle of the night!

Wait until you're my age... I was thinking about setting up a cot in the bathroom! The guy I used to call Russell the Love Muscle is now just a pain in the dick!

(I'd love to know when someone came up with that one.)

Probably while they were doing time birthing doc guards and wiping their wardens.

If you will pardon me, I have to go pay the water bill.

When I started this, I decided to look and see if I could find some I hadn't heard of... There were pages! Some so bizarre I wouldn't even use them!

That is odd, I used the term with a kid last Thursday and had to look some up, too.

Me and her mom were talking about someone else's 'monkey on their back' when the kid asked what that meant, so I explained that euphemisms were when you say one thing but mean another.
The best I could come up with was 'your cows are getting out'.
Luckily that distracted her long enough that she didn't call me on not answering her question about monkeys.

With all of the painkillers I have to take, I often feel like I'm carrying King Kong around!

Have you tried MMJ?

I started in 1962... It makes pain worse because I think about it more. That doesn't mean I don't like to get high though!

Lol, they say that opiate consumption is going down in states where mmj is legal.

I agree that my toothaches hurt more high, and that is a sad day in paradise.
Can't get high, and my tooth won't stop hurting.

Well, what doesn't kill us, just makes us grumpier, eh?

If you understood my pain level you would understand more... I'll take all of your toothaches if you spend 1 week in my body!

Since we're on this subject, I got this on my feed today:

A very valid point! Sounds like something George Carlin would come up with!

Indeed.

I would've responded earlier, but I had to go Drain the Main Vein.

I've been playing with the idea of doing a euphemism post along those lines... My fav is "The one-eyed trouser snake."

Hahahah true.. sounds weird if you read it as it supposed to be..but yeah..it's acceptable 😁😁

That just made my day.
