Many people think that trapping for fur is a thing of the past, well not quite. although the price of beaver plummeted years ago there is still money to be made in the industry. At the time I trapped this bobcat, about 6 years ago, I was making anywhere from $300.00-$600.00 per bobcat pelt, and in some areas like Montana there were pelts that brought as much as $1000.00. I know many people feel that trapping is inhumane and unnecessary but that is quite untrue. Once an animal is in a leg-hold trap the leg actually goes to sleep from reduced bloodflow. as far as being necessary, Trapping happens to be a very useful tool in game management. Just like anything an overpopulation of any one species leads to disease and starvation, that is where things become cruel. Just in the past 12 years in the area where I live we have had several deer DIE-OFFS, THIS WAS DUE TO AN OVERPOPULATION. You could not even drive through town without the smell of death hitting you in the face from the dead deer laying all over the place. All things must be managed and God gave us dominion over the animals for this reason. I have always hunted and trapped in a respectful manner and Have used everything from the animal as not to waste, and yes I have eaten bobcat and it is actually a very good meat.
I have always been one to lean toward the older ways and trapping goes way back. I hope you enjoyed this and recieved some value. Follow me for more outdoor adventure and fun, I would be happy to get to know you.
Beautiful creature but yeah overpopulation of any species is a problem!
