Update on the US Virgin Islands

in hurricane •  7 years ago

A friend of mine who moved to the US Virgin Islands a few years ago has put up an update on Facebook with images from after Maria. It doesn't look good.

Here's her statement and images:

UPDATE; our cell service does not work in our house, so I have to drive to another location on the Island just to get on-line, which I can only do, maybe 1-2 a day, with the curfew of 4pm being in place. My texts n calls come in, if I'm in the yard(but, some r coming in hours after the fact). ANY post I make with hurricane photo aftermath, I'm making public now, so PLEASE share! The US Virgin Islands needs help! We our easily forgot about being in the Caribbean, but US still owns our territory. There are shortages here of batteries, gas for generators(And there is NO Power on the Island). We stood in line literally for 3 hours yesterday of one of the few grocery stores open, just to get non-perishable food items. Photo here of the grocery store line from my husbands drone. They Military Police only let so many go in at a time. Also Only cash is being used cause all systems are down. Because Our Island of St Croix, sent so many relief supplies to our sister Islands after Irma, we are having a shortages of supplies since Hurricane Maria devastated our Island 🌴. Here r more pics around town today. We desperately need help State-side(electric workers, linemen, machinery shipped to Island to clear roads n of course men that can operate them), etc.
