Irma is expected to impact the northeastern Leeward Islands by the middle of this week as a major hurricane, according to the National Hurricane Center.
The storm is currently moving at 14 mph as a Category 3 storm.
It's still too early to tell what effect it will have in South Florida, but it's never too early to be prepared.
It’s unclear if the storm could affect the continental U.S. But a hurricane center forecaster stressed that the exact forecast track should not be the focus because strong winds and heavy rainfall can extend well away from the center.
The National Hurricane Center reported the storm is expected to continue on this trajectory for the next 30 hours before gradually turning toward the west and then west-northwest on days 3-5.
... as we're still 8 days out, too far in the future for most meteorologists to commit to this forecast.
