A dead Kudu Antelope against the game Fence in Addo Elephant National Park South Africa.
Nature is fantastic and adaptive.
This Kudu Antelope (Tragelaphus strepsiceros) was no doubt killed by Spotted Hyena ( Crocuta crocuta ).
These amazing top predators of Africa will use anything to their advantage and are known to corner their prey against Game Fences to assist them in their attack.
I found this out first hand standing guard one dark night at a South African Air Force Base near the Kruger National Park in January 1989. There was a raucous noise of growling, yapping, ripping, snorting and kicking one dark night near the Entrance Gate to the camp.
It was quite frightening, I wondered why we were not issued with Spot Lights. We had our rifles at the ready staring into the dark.
At daylight we found the cause of the noise - Spotted Hyena had caught and killed a Waterbuck up against the fence about 10 m from where we were standing guard! A memorable night.
awesome stuff Hyenas are indeed great predators, normally they wait for other wild animals to kill, and then feast once they are done, and eat the remains, so this is indeed a good one for me
