In 2009 a very special child was born, it didn’t take long for the wise people in the community to know that he is different and would one day make a positive difference in the society, he was different from his peers, he was unique and those same features that endeared the people to him also created many haters for him because he is a perfect example of the famous Andrew Smith quote “People fear what they don't understand and hate what they can't conquer.” Incase you haven’t deciphered it by now, I am not talking about a boy, I am talking about Bitcoin.
From a coin that started at $0.0008 in 2009, Bitcoin had grown to be worth over $68,700 per coin All Time High(ATH). By 2018, no publicly traded company would touch Cryptocurrencies with a long stick, infact they derived so much pleasure in announcing the fact that they would never consider adopting Cryptocurrencies as a method of payment or transaction in their various platforms.
Fast forward to 2023 when some Countries has adopted Cryptocurrency as legal tender, the two biggest payment processors Visa and Mastercard now process Cryptocurrency payments, Automobile maker like Tesla accepts Cryptocurrency in exchange for their cars, Digital payments platforms like PayPal and Venmo now has full support for Cryptocurrencies evidenced by the fact that PayPal recently declared over $1B worth of Cryptocurrency on their balance sheet, Celebrities and billionaires no longer hide the fact that they have cryptocurrency portfolios, it is of little wonder how Cryptocurrency adoption has picked up momentum in recent months.
Infact here is a Yahoo! article about 5 billionaires who used to criticize Cryptocurrency but has since had a change of heart, one recurring thing I have seen about all of them is the fact that they used to criticize Bitcoin and Cryptocurrencies because of lack of knowledge about it and once they got to understand the underlying technology and how it can revolutionize our monetary system, they have all come to love it.
