Keilir

in iceland •  last year

The volcanic plug Keilir (lit. cone in Icelandic) in Reykjanes is currently in the news. Over the past week, an earthquake swarm centred in the area has been rocking southwest Iceland. The tremors have jolted Reykjavík and the surrounding region. Magma is on the move, sloshing around in the subterranean tunnels. An eruption is very likely and geologists surmise that a fissure will open up near Keilir should magma breach the surface.
