It's been long since we have been fighting the war over privacy with governments, companies, advertising and data firms. No longer we humans are considered as consumers but more as products to these companies. Somehow it is not entirely these companies mistake, rather we humans have the tendency of opting for 'convenience' over 'privacy'. We have been doing that for years and corporates narrowed down on it and now making profits out of this difficult habit that we humans have.
We still need to realize the fact that privacy is not only important to celebrities, politicians or important personalities, it equally is important for us, we people.
Privacy basically is the key to a free, democratic society. But when your privacy is eroded and being accessed by a third party. The risk of manipulation increases. We are more likely pushed in one direction which brushes off the original perspective that we own. The result is increase in stories about social media influence, election outcomes, corporate tech scandals and so on, all revolve around the same compromise of ‘privacy’.
So, I recently stumbled upon an app called "Cove Identity" , introduced by a company based in UK. It is more like a digi-locker, it scans and digitize your offline documents so that you don't have to carry documents again. It is based on blockchain technology, which promises trust and collaboration among its community. You can get your data verified from peers, institutions, and colleagues. You can rate and review documents. And because it is end-to-end encrypted, the company can't read the data, it can't access the data, therefore, one can upload its personal documents, healthcare records and family records (which concern a family). Cove Identity also give the right to its users to decide with whom they want to share the document with, also if in case they want to revoke the permission to access it, with unlimited version history so that no one can possibly play around with your document, you will know who has done what!
It has emerged in a time where country like India needs it the most, where its government and court trying to decide if 'privacy' is really important and if it should be given as a right to its citizens or not!
As strange as this debate is, my concern is what if they turn against the right to privacy. The horror scares me to the core. The scenes from the series 'Black Mirror' starts flashing in my mind and I feel like running towards woods, into the wild where no one can track me or manipulate me for that matter.
So, I happily downloaded the application, and I followed the company to know more about its plan. I attended an event where the company's co-founder spoke on bitcoin and blockchain. I was really impressed to learn that he is very well updated on the current topics and he understands the technology really well.
And then, in the end, he dropped the bomb, he is planning to announce ICO for the same app with its tokens called as 'Cove Shells' and I instantly got interested in the idea. I have been tracking companies which are doing ICO with their tokens, many of them don't even have a product, just whitepaper and a plan, hence it becomes increasingly difficult for me to buy their tokens since so many scams are surfacing the industry, undoubtedly I am very much impressed with companies like TenX, they are actually doing something, I see a lot of value there.
And now 'Cove Identity', which has a working app and in a time where digitization and privacy matter the most, it offers both the service.
It has a great scope, the cryptocurrency market is doing really well, and hence this would be a great deal to pick on.
I am so waiting for this company to announce its roadmap and I am definitely in. Are you?
