We live in a world where we’re all created equal but different. Why equal? Because we have the same rights and we share the same responsibility. No matter what is your background, you can be anyone and anything.
But why different? Physically, each of us was created unique, means that we have different and unique physical identity attached to each one of use. Even a twin still have different physical characteristics. I am not talking about different character in psychological terms since anyone can have different character as they want but physically, we are all different in a unique way.
Body it is part of many larger systems which make up virtually all human. But as you can see on the picture below, the smallest part of our body is DNA.
Experts found that the more closely related two people are, the more similar their genomes. Scientists estimate that the genomes of non-related people (any two people plucked at random off the street) differ at about 1 in every 1,500 DNA bases. Most cells in a human body contain a complete set of the genome, which is two sets of 23 chromosomes. Having two of each chromosome is called diploidy. Within an individual human the DNA is approximately identical in every cell.
So what is the problem?
Human DNA is a blueprint for building a person. As researchers learn more about the functions of genes and proteins from each DNA, this knowledge will have a major impact in the fields of medicine, biotechnology, and the life of that person. For example, if a person experience a “rare disease” then experts might find a suitable treatment or medicines by learning through that persons’ DNA. This research will then pass through health organizations and companies (WHO, drug companies) in order to do another advanced research which in the end produce a medicine for that rare disease. After appropriate tests, this medicine will be sold to public. Can you see the the red line?
Yes, researchers use your DNA without any compensation, to produce a cure and then profit from it. Again without any compensation to you as the “DNA donors”.
Shivom wants to change the way anyone use your genome. Shivom is an ambitious project to create a universal hub between DNA data donors and the health industry as a whole. With aims to offer a full control for donors of their own genomic data, with whom they want to share it and receive rewards for it.
This is what I have said in earlier paragraphs about how we are equal and how we are different. With the solution from Shivom, we are now truly equal. Why? Because when someone is using our own physical identity like DNA, we are fairly rewarded for it and we are free to choose whether to share it or not. That’s what equality means, you get what you deserve.
Shivom is creating a genomics ecosystem on the blockchain. The platform offers a secure and open marketplace for healthcare providers to add their apps and services, alongside genomic data analytics and personalized medicine.
