Gems is a decentralized platform for contracting workers to perform micro tasks – typically for companies. It’s a platform competing directly with the likes of Amazon Mechanical Turk and CrowdFlower.
Business Problem
There are several problems with current micro tasks services like Amazon Mechanical Turk: redundancy, limited access to people with bank accounts, high intermediary fee. Gems reduces consensus by redundancy, increases pay for individual workers while decreasing total pay for requesters, creates efficient interfaces, eliminates large fees, allows others to build innovative DApps on top of it, and enables computer literate workers with internet to work with or without a bank account.
Progress and roadmap
They completed the Pre-Alpha demo, which demonstrates the core essentials of Gems. In the technology demo, they show an application that assigns tasks to miners, creates a due date for the work, and keeps track of task completions.
Have a detailed roadmap for Q1 and beyond.
Team
Both founders are Harvard dropout and have founded a successful start up before. Peter Thiel fellow and Forbes 30 under 30. Their advisors are also superstars from other relevant past ICO projects.
Community
Gems is the most active and fastest growing community on Telegram among current ICOs with over 11k members. Their Twitter has less followers compared to some other popular crypto projects. I'm not concerned about this though for 2 reasons: i) they haven't really started marketing yet but are focusing on development (which is a good thing) and ii) engagement per tweet is very high.
There will be a pre-sale for people who participate in the Gems Community Program (see https://blog.gems.org/gems-introducing-the-gems-community-program-750264520cc6).
