The year 2017 has been a good year for Blockchain and not just in terms of numbers but also in the way people and new businesses have opened themselves to the idea of using this technology in various parts of the society.

We have seen new innovations made in so many domains with the help of blockchain, that it'll be difficult to find a domain which has been left untouched by it.

But, if I had to name one sector, that according to me won't be impacted by Blockchain, then

Farming would have been one of my first three guesses.

As it turns out, my prediction about blockchain, like for so many others, has been proved wrong.

Mining is the term we normally associate with blockchain but farming with blockchain was something I didn't expect.

Demeters is revolutionising Farming!

And they're calling it the 4th revolution of agriculture - ag4.0.

Demeters want to bring micro farms to your table. They have a very simple solution for it.

Through their decentralized platform, consumers can remotely rent and farm micro fields from anywhere in the world.

You can rent a field then ask the farmer to grow the crop you want, monitor their growth and choose the type of fertilizers you feel are right. After the produce is ready you can then get it delivered directly to your homes and onto your table.

Demeter team has plans to expand into Asia in the first phase, while expansion in Europe, USA, Africa and rest of the world is planned for the later phases.

Why wouldn't you want to have your own Micro Farm?

The Demeter platform is a win-win opportunity for both the consumers and the farmers.

Consumers can grow their own vegetables and fruits from the comfort of their home. Since the consumer is directly involved in the process, he can be assured that the produce he is getting is truly organic. Organic food generally cost a lot of money because you are essentially paying for a higher quality product but without the guarantee on the quality.

Consumers on the platform will have access to relatively cheaper farm fresh organic food and since the process is directly connecting the consumer to the farmer middleman is eliminated from the process.

The consumer can also buy the produce from the farms through the Demeter marketplace as well.

Also, because there is a direct connection between the consumer and the farmer, there is lots of room for communication between the two parties. Consumers can communicate with the farmers and can monitor the entire process of cultivation of the crops.

The individuals at the other end of this transaction would also be benefited in this process. Since it would be a demand driven platform, farmers will get a constant demand for their products and also a greater percentage of the total earnings than they used to get earlier.

All the transactions will occur on the platform through the DMT token. This will provide the security and trust in the system.

About the ICO.

DMT token is an Ethereum based token, which will be available for interested parties to buy during the ICO.

200 million DMT tokens would be issued during the ICO, out of which 30% will be available during the crowd sale, while 20% is reserved for the development team.

Half of the remaining tokens are reserved to ensure the growth of the company in the future while the remaining half will be released for DMT holders over time.

The ICO began on 18th November and will last 30 days or after the hard cap limit has been reached, whichever occurs first.

You can exchange 1 ETH for 2300 DMT and the minimum value for purchasing a token is 0.1 ETH.

The ICO is hard capped at 200,000,000 tokens.

There is also a 5% bonus for 1st level whitelisted members and 2.5% bonus for the 2nd level whitelisted members.

Due to some legal uncertainties, all US citizens are prohibited to take part in this crowdsale.

Our Opinion

Well, the project will solve a lot of problems for the farmers who in most countries suffer because they get very little percentage of the very goods they produce. Demeters might be able to help them.

But, the idea of setting up micro farms and making them available for the consumers around the globe, is an ambitious project to undertake; although with the help of the security and trust provided by the blockchain technology, the task does seem plausible.

And they do have a lot of experienced members of their team and with sufficient capital, they just might be able to reach their goals.

hey thanks for the info! Im an agronomist and I am looking to build something similar to what Demeter is looking to accomplish. The only thing is it doesn't make sense that they let the customers choose the fertilisers. It should be either conventionally grown, organic, or IPM integrated pest management. It is too much work to cater to people that don't know anything about fertilisers.
