A shady cryptocurrency startup raised over $830 thousand in an ICO with Ryan Gosling listed as the lead designer and Thomas Yates (a fictional character from House of Cards) as the head of marketing.
ICO scams still exist.
Do you know how to identify one?
Well, until there is more regulation, this is a key skill that you, as an investor, needs to know.
The company is called Miroskii.
The Reddit community became interested when they discovered that each team member’s photo was ripped from the internet. But even more red flags kept appearing.
Their whitepaper is non-existent.
Their platform is filled with buzzwords and non-deliverable promises. It plans to offer a “decentralized banking platform” and has partnerships with leading card providers such as Visa, American Express, and Mastercard.
Their roadmap is generalized and uninformative.
Each one of the milestones gives no information what-so-ever and seems to be extremely superfluous. Their website is filled with spelling and grammar errors. It’s incredibly sad to see over 350 naive investors get swindled out of almost one million dollars. That’s why it’s incredibly important to do your due-diligence and research each company thoroughly before investing.
That number may be fraudulent and inflated to instill a false sense of security and promise for investors. We can’t tell from the website but it’s always good to err on the side of caution and take this scam as a lesson to the entire community.
Unfortunately, there are people out there taking advantage of others. With a combined social media influence of under ten followers, think twice before investing in a company that may vanish into thin-air tomorrow.
Update: As of this morning, their website has gone offline. It’s exciting to see a community come together to take down scams and promote legitimate investment opportunities.
