Project Summary:
Fog computing platform offering BaaS containing the following
Public chain
IPFS storage
Off chain computing (fog computing)
Uses JavaScript as the main programming language
Tags a hash to an app and posts it on the chain
Creates immutability
Ease of access of app (perhaps some sort of name resolver in the
future?)
Layers
Aggregate Layer
Blockchain layer
Connects storage nodes
Opens API to chain for gateway layer
Node Gateway
- API layer for app layer to build on
Mobile (App layer)
- Will support iOS, Android and h5 platforms
Consensus mechanism
Hybrid Proof of Work (PoW) & Proof of Existance (PoE)
PoW for generating blocks
PoE for proving that storage is available for storage (mainly
for IPFS)
Token
Minable (30% of supply)
Used to determine node weight
New nodes low weight
Apps with large userbase (high flow) will be high weight
Lower weight nodes provide services to higher weight ones
(storage, bandwidth etc)High weight nodes are forced to purchase more tokens to
support higher load
Pros/Cons:
Pros:
Good tokenomic structure
Ecosystem seems complete
Fog computing will be needed in the near future
- This is especially true for smart contract computation
Unique structure of tagging an address to an dapp
Strong investors with Qtum and Fenbushi being the more prominent
ones
Cons:
The adoption of the ecosystem is highly correlated to the token
priceMany similar projects already exist in the market
Storage (siacoin, storj, bluzelle (db))
Fog Computing (golem, elastos)
General Thoughts:
This project is interesting as it is the first I've come across where
every dApp is tagged to an address and the owner is charged for the
resources the dApp consumes. The use case of blockchain technology is
therefore strong, but one should not be blinded as Ethereum already
offers such an ecosystem with smart contracts.
Hero Node's implementation is the opposite of Ethereum's model where the
users are charged for using the dApp (gas fees). The creator of a dApp
would have to pass the cost down to the users which would create a
slightly different ecosystem compared to existing smart contract
platforms. This will result in dApps created on the Hero Node platform
to be different (more expensive to use?) which should allow Hero Node to
co-exist with Ethereum.
Ultimately, every platform requires adoption and Hero Node is making it
more expensive for successful app developers to continue hosting their
app. Whether such a model will work remains to be seen.
