ICN Hodler Report - Q2 2019

Q2 2019 Summary

It's been an exciting past few months for ICN Hodlers. ICONOMI added a new blog, investor page & 'NEXT' section (giving a rough roadmap of plan ahead for the year). They launched private crypto funds to most of the world (minus our North American friends) and a couple of weeks ago they released their much anticipated 235 page prospectus relating to securities, getting the green light from regulators. The crypto market has also picked up with the price of Bitcoin almost trebling between close of Q1 and close of Q2.

New features / site updates

This quarter I sort of ripped up the plan and went down a different route mainly because I spotted an opportunity to create something of value that wouldn't just add value to the ICNHodler site but would add value for fund managers and projects outside of the ICONOMI family. Exposing people to Crypto Funds and highlighting the value of them in relation to holding individual assets is important. There's enough data to do it at the minute but as always analysing, visualising and showcasing things in an easy-to-digest format is the difficult bit.

I created an open source CryptoCharts library which makes it easy for people to add crypto related charts on their sites. You can add simple price charts or more complex charts such as a calendar heatmap of an asset's daily gains / losses. You can also compare the % gain/loss between multiple assets with just a few lines of code. This is working directly with the ICONOMI API and some other APIs to grab prices and other data.

I've said before that I would try to open source ICNHodler stuff at some point and I've also said that I'd be slowly moving away from ICONOMI-specific features so this is something that ticks both of those boxes. The charts themselves aren't in use yet on ICN Hodler but will be soon. More APIs will be integrated, control over the data will improve and it will start to become a whole lot more useful and difficult to resist if you're someone who needs / wants crypto charts but doesn't want the hassle of building your own charts from scratch.

In other news, I updated the indirect holdings feature to more accurately reflect the estimated value of the new securities (by assigning treasury tokens a value of zero and decreasing circulating supply). The end result is a boost in estimated fiat value. It's all highly variable and filled with 'what ifs', but it's now a far more reasonable / accurate estimate than before.

Q2 2019 Traffic

Traffic stats in Q2 were up & positive across the board. Apart from making some onsite changes to help with SEO, Google also made major changes to their indexing algorithms which will start to reward and assist single page application developers (fewer workarounds needed to please googlebots). The end result is that ICN Hodler is starting to rank more highly for key terms and its average position in search results is improving month by month.

942 users (+2.39%)
4,529 sessions (+53.63%)
28.4% returning visitors (+1.2%)
72.53% bounce rate (-10.57%)

Plans for Q3

Continued development of the CryptoCharts library. Q3 (and Q4 for that matter) will be extra busy for me personally so it's unlikely I'll make huge progress on any major new features.
However, with securities being issued next month, there will no doubt be a lot of questions and interest around what value they hold and how their value can be calculated. So I may place more emphasis on the indirect holdings tool and make it easier to find by bringing it to the homepage in some form.

It would also be useful to start projecting future revenue / expenses based on the past and allowing people to adjust some variables to forecast pessimistic / optimistic scenarios. That will probably happen at some point and initially you may see it rolled out in the CryptoCharts library (to project future prices of assets based on history, probably just using simple linear regression analysis to start off).
