What To Look For While Researching ICO's

in icoresearch •  7 years ago  (edited)

Hey folks,

Just want to bring up a few tips I gathered over my ICO’s research so you can see for yourself if an ICO is legit or not. But of course always DYOR.

  1. The team behind it:
Look up their LinkedIn profiles, see what degrees and credentials each team member has. That is a strong indicator if they are a legit group or just a bunch of Joe’s looking to make a quick buck.

  2. social media presence and hype:
Check out if they have a Telegram group, a discord group, a Reddit page, a Facebook page, a Twitter page, an Instagram page, a GitHub page, a YouTube channel. Etc,

The more platforms they have, the more serious they are about the project. Also when you research the social media presence, see how engaging the devs are, how active and how often they post. Look at the number of followers and the comments to see how engaged they are with the community.

  1. Look at other resources:
Aside from their official platforms, look around and see what people are saying about it, see if it’s talked about anywhere else.

  2. Make sure is not a copy:
Look around the internet, see if there are similar ICO’s doing the same thing to make sure is just not a copy and paste.

  3. is there a real need for it:
Look around and DYOR, see if there is an actual need for the product, they could be trying to solve a problem that does not need to be resolved or is not such a big problem, to begin with, and it might not need a blockchain at all to fix it.

  4. Amount needed:
Check out the whitepaper and see what they need the money for. If a company is trying to solve a problem of people not getting the right drink they ordered, so they decide to make a blockchain, so people can see what drink you buy, and protect you from scammers who might not want to give you said drink. They don’t need $30 million to do that.

This is a great website to check a white paper for plagiarism:

Here is a great site where people do Research on ICO’s and indicates if it’s a possible scam or not:
https://concourseq.io

And here is another excellent Resource to help you DYOR:

This is what I came across doing my research of ICO’s that I think people should be aware of.

But I can’t stress this enough, DYOR, so you don’t get scammed.
