I am, to understate the point, no fan of CRT and "wokeness" in education causes some genuine problems. But this kind of effort to counter it, ironically leads to much greater intolerance and wokeness. Thus, this Idaho bill (which has parallels elsewhere) would ban public universities from, among other things, teaching any materials that advocate “That any sex, race, ethnicity, religion, color or national origin is inherently superior or inferior” or “That individuals should be adversely treated on the basis of their sex, race, ethnicity, religion, color or national origin.”
This is presumably aimed at various CRT texts, like "White Fragility" (which is indeed an awful screed). But it would also ban the teaching of numerous works by great philosophers such as Plato, Aristotle (the "Politics" includes both a defense of slavery and a defense of denying equal rights to women), Kant, several of the Founding Fathers, and so on. Ditto for many classic works of literature. Indeed, it bans a much wider range of the material than all but the most extreme woke radicals would!
Sadly, this is just one of many examples where the conservative reaction to wokeness has been to double down on many of the same wrongs that the woke themselves are guilty of. Stop the madness!
