Wisdom against idolatry: For the worship of infamous idols is the reason and source and extreme of all evil. Wisdom 14:27

In the Old Testament, God is always identified with the most perfect, that is, with wisdom, that is why the path to God, both in the Pentateuch and in the sapiential books, is the gift of fear of God: "The LORD commanded us to obey all these decrees and to fear the LORD our God" Deuteronomy 6:24.
In other words this means that the sin of idolatry is any deviation from the fear of God, such as the love of money. The spiritual gift of fear of God is defined as constancy, firmness, devotion, equanimity, and stability.
And the Book of Wisdom, whose author was probably King Solomon, taught in depth this opposition between the gift of fear of God and idolatry. In the Sacred Scriptures, the sin of idolatry, the worship of false gods, is fundamentally the religion of fools; and an example in history were the Assyrians and Babylonians who, with their false gods, only served with their foolishness, to impose terror and oppression on weaker peoples.
With wise words the Book of Wisdom teaches that false gods bring false teachings, that is, heresies, and with this the source of the greatest evils for man, such as impiety:
"For the worship of infamous idols
is the reason and source and extreme of all evil.
For they either go mad with enjoyment, or prophesy lies,
or live lawlessly or lightly perjure themselves.
For as their trust is in lifeless idols,
they expect no harm when they have sworn falsely.
But on both counts justice shall overtake them:
because they thought perversely of God by devoting themselves to idols,
and because they deliberately swore false oaths, despising piety" Wisdom 14:27-30.
Wisdom does not seek deception or lies, there is no diabolical wisdom, that is why wisdom seeks that men find the most excellent path to happiness and the good life, that is, God.
